Will the billing for truestream be combined with our electric bill? Or can we have them seperate

Will the billing for truestream be combined with our electric bill? Or can we have them seperate
8:37AM October 17, 2019
Hi John, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! Truestream and electric bills are billed separately, and the Truestream bill is available online only. We bill about the middle of the month, and the due date will be the 1st of the following month. If you have registered online for your electric account already, your Truestream will be added automatically. If you have not registered your electric account online yet, I would recommend visiting www.gtlakes.com and registering as a new user. You will need your electric account number and a valid email address. If you have any additional questions, please let me know!
2:26PM October 13, 2019
Truestream came through our subdivision (Country Club Hills in Bear Creek Township) this summer to lay cable and install those above ground, green junction boxes (what are they called?). I signed up for phone service and realize it will not be installed till next year. My question is, when the fiber-optic line is sent to my house, is it connected to the cable along the road in front of my house or does it go to one of those junction boxes which is elsewhere in my subdivision?
10:41AM October 15, 2019
Hi Bill, thank you for your interest in Truestream! The green junction boxes in your subdivision are technically called a terminal pedestal. The main fiber line on the road is extended to a terminal pedestal, and from that pedestal is where we branch off and bring the fiber line directly to your home. If you have any other questions, please let me know!
11:42AM October 11, 2019
Hi I'm wondering if you have any information on getting internet on rustic rd in Petoskey. Currently have no internet options that work well. Can't wait to have truestream!
3:42PM October 11, 2019
Hi Christopher, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We anticipate construction in your area will wrap up in late fall/early winter. We will be battling mother nature to get as many installations to the home complete as we can, so we are working hard to get as much done as we can!
5:02PM October 08, 2019
Julie, when I asked you on August 19th when you may be getting to Skyline Drive in Petoskey you said they were going to be in our area that week. There are 20plus houses in our subdivision and 2 or three have been hooked up. I have been told that the underground is messed up. The whole neighborhood is talking of coming to the meeting on the 9th to try to get some answers. Several people removed their satellite receivers back in August and it has been 50 days since my last message. Can someone give us some answers on where were are at on getting hooked up? I have a conduit going to my home as I stated before and there are three other conduits going to the two green boxes on the corner of my lot with fiber running thru two of them.
3:26PM October 10, 2019
Hi Daniel, I apologize for the delays, I know Skyline Drive has proven to be trickier than we anticipated. Our construction supervisor will be out there Friday morning to meet with the crews. I will pass your message on to him and have him contact you with any additional information he can provide.
10:07PM October 06, 2019
Any idea when southeast petoskey will get hooked up?
10:11AM October 02, 2019
Julie, Any update on our area. May need to sign up for satellite internet and if we lock in for two years our rates are cheaper, but don't want to be handcuffed if truestream is coming our way next year. I know you don't have a crystal ball, but have they discussed plans for next year. Roger
3:46PM October 04, 2019
Hi Roger, this may come as a shock, but we have several Roger Smith's registered:-)! I am going to go out on a limb and guess you are in our Boyne area though, based on your next year's comments. The board will meet in November to discuss the results of the Boyne study. We won't have many details until after that meeting takes place. We'll keep everyone updated on it though, promise!
11:29AM October 01, 2019
Could you please give more informatin about the Oct 9 meeting at Petoskey Middle School - time?
2:39PM October 01, 2019
Hi Dennis, thank you for y our interest in Truestream! We are more than happy to share! We will be at the middle school starting at 4:30 pm to answer your Truestream questions. We appreciate it if you RSVP, for staffing purposes. You can visit www.truestreamfiber.com and click on the Events tab to register and learn more about our full schedule of events.
9:16AM October 01, 2019
Are there any month to month plans available for seasonal houses?
2:40PM October 01, 2019
Hi Paul, we do offer a vacation plan - here are the basics. It is $25/mo. for up to 6 months of the year for internet service and $15/mo. for up to 6 months of the year for voice service. Our vacation internet plan provides enough bandwidth to operate a security system while you are away and allows you to go back on a regular internet plan when you return. With the voice vacation plan, you can keep your phone number and dial 911 for emergencies then go back on the standard voice plan when you return. If you have any questions, please let me know!
1:19PM September 26, 2019
Do you bundle your package with any tv providers?
2:35PM September 27, 2019
Hi Dennis, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We do not partner with any particular tv provider because everyone's television watching preferences are so different! We do have a tv streaming guide available at https://www.truestreamfiber.com/cutting-cord/. We are also hosting another streaming event at the Petoskey Middle School on October 9. We're there to answer any of your questions and show the basics of streaming!
7:28PM September 25, 2019
I see line crews working diligently on Canby Rd. north of Levering Rd. getting lines in. Hope to see something by next summer I can't wait. Thank you all and Great Lakes for this endeavor.
12:39PM September 27, 2019
Thank you for your interest in Truestream, and your enthusiasm Arthur! We are all excited to be bringing a much-needed service to so many folks!
7:52PM September 23, 2019
I cannot wait for truestream- any idea for an installation timeline on Plains Rd. Brutus??
3:32PM September 24, 2019
Hi Denise, thank you for your interest in Truestream, we can't wait to bring service to you! It looks like you are part of our Pellston South area, which is part of our phase 2 plan. A couple of our construction crews have moved into your phase 2 area, but we expect a majority of our construction and installations to take place sometime in 2020. To keep up with the latest updates be sure to like our Facebook page and check out our blog!
9:43PM September 15, 2019
Hi, could really use you right about now. Hughesnet is killing me, I am desperately trying to get through college on internet reminiscent of late 90's dial-up. What is the ETA for Brubaker/Greenwood road area?
2:15PM September 17, 2019
Hi Cari, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We can't estimate any timeframes for a specific location. We expect installations in Petoskey West, your area, to start late in the fall.
11:10AM September 15, 2019
I noticed some new white flags(after the main cable has been put in) on Mulberry Lane, CVX. Does it mean that we will be actually connected before snow? Cant wait to join the 21st Century!
8:04AM September 17, 2019
Hi Lilly, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We are out in that area trying hard to finish up the construction and making all the necessary connections. Being in Michigan, you never know when the snow will fly...but we plan to have that area up and running soon!
12:27PM September 10, 2019
Hi Julie! I am signed up for the 69.99 family residential plan. Is it a big deal to upgrade to a higher speed plan after installation is complete? Thanks, Darryl E
2:37PM September 13, 2019
Hi Darryl, thank you for your interest in Truestream! Changing your plan is just a simple phone call away!
12:14PM September 10, 2019
Starting to see flags come up on Pleasantview Rd and some subdivisions in Harbor Springs! My hopes for pre-winter fiber internet are rising slightly.
1:00PM September 13, 2019
Hey Tyler, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We have been able to move some of our crews into Phase 2 to start getting things ready. We still anticipate a majority of the installations will take place in 2020 though. It will be here before you know it!
3:48PM September 09, 2019
Petoskey East....Ridgeway Rd - when are we being connected? WE CANT WAIT!!
11:42AM September 13, 2019
Hey Ryan, we are doing a whole lot of work out that way right now, it won't be too much longer!
2:47PM September 06, 2019
I am in Petoskey West. I would like to cancel my satellite in anticipation of Truestream. Do you think installation will be complete by Christmas?
1:34PM September 09, 2019
Hi Lynn, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We are still in the construction and splicing phases in our Petoskey West area. We anticipate in-home installations will begin later this fall, but we cannot guarantee when any individual installation will take place. As we get a bit further into the fall, keep an eye out for more info!
1:03PM September 05, 2019
Hey true stream! My family and I are excited for the new internet. We are curious as to when the installation will come our way? We live in the Hills of Walloon community out past Camp Dagget. I noticed that Camp Dagget just got their fiber up and running not too long ago. Any Dates we can look forward to? Thanks!
1:25PM September 09, 2019
Hi Heather, your order is with one of our underground contractors. If you haven't already, you will be seeing the MISS DIG flags soon. Once those flags are in, use the flags we provided to mark anything you may have installed yourself, and our crew will be out soon to install the conduit and then fiber line! Once that fiber line is installed, we will call to schedule the installation. It shouldn't be too much longer!
11:07AM September 01, 2019
Julie, Any idea when 2021 construction plans will be formalized?
9:41AM October 07, 2019
Hey Tim, after the board meets in November we may have additional information to share!
9:43AM October 05, 2019
Julie, Have you had a chance to find out any information about 2021 construction plans? Thank you.
4:33PM September 05, 2019
Hi Tim, I am not aware of any plans yet, but I will see if I can find out any additional info for you!
6:08PM August 20, 2019
I am currently a Great Lakes Energy customer in the Pellston-South region by Brutus. I have above ground electric service now and I was wondering if I will need to upgrade my electrical service to below ground before you can install your internet cable or will you just run it in on the existing cable?
10:47AM August 22, 2019
Hi Edgar, thank you for your interest in Truestream! Our plan is to follow the same path as your electric service takes, so if you have overhead service, your fiber line will be run overhead as well. To be clear though, the fiber line will be a separate line from the electric line. If you have any questions, please let me know!
9:57AM August 20, 2019
Will this be made available to the Waters/Gaylord (specifically, Lakes of the North) area soon?
10:44AM August 22, 2019
Hi Kevin, thank you for your interest in Truestream! Demand for service is an important factor we look at when considering where to build next, so we do not have any set timelines for each area we serve yet. Encourage your friends and neighbors to register their interest, raising the demand in your area, and it could be considered next!
6:24PM August 18, 2019
Looking forward to the Whipporrwill Associate install on the north side of Charlevoix. I see cabling being run, so it may not be long now! William
4:33PM August 19, 2019
Hi William, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We are working hard and making progress out your way! I wanted to verify you received the service agreement and site plan we emailed you, it looks like we are missing those, and we will need them before we can bring the service to your home! If you need them emailed again, or dropped in the mail, please let me know!
6:18PM August 17, 2019
Julie, Your crews have been in our neighborhood, Skyline Drive, on and off for over a month running the underground conduit. I've bee told a couple of times that the installation crew should be coming within a couple of weeks but haven't seen anyone getting hooked up. Do you have any idea when this may happen? The conduit is run up to my house. Thanks, Dan Hoggard
4:21PM August 19, 2019
Hi Daniel, installation in our Petoskey East area will begin this week! It will take some time to get to everyone. When we are ready for your home, you'll get a call!
9:21AM August 14, 2019
Just wondering if there are any updates on installations for Petoskey East. The underground conduit was installed about 3 weeks ago at my home on Greenwood Rd. , but still no fiber. Getting a little anxious as I’m not seeing any crews in the area. Would greatly appreciate some kind of timeframe estimate. Thanks.
4:15PM August 19, 2019
Hey Robert, we are happy to say, after a delay in the shipping of some much-needed equipment, we will begin connecting in Petoskey East this week! It will take some time to get to everyone, but when we are ready for your location, we will be giving you a call!
8:16AM August 10, 2019
Hi Julie, The initial crews have been out on Gokee Rd in Boyne Falls. Any idea when the install crew will be out this way?
2:18PM August 12, 2019
Hey Robert, you're right, the initial framing crews have made their way through your area of Petoskey West! We still have more construction and line connections to make. In-home installations will likely start to take place in late fall. If you have any questions, let me know!
3:04PM August 09, 2019
Just wondering if there is an update for Hayes township. Last I heard it was June/July but that’s come and gone. Thanks so much!
3:03PM August 14, 2019
Hi Megan, we have been working hard in our Hayes area and installations are ongoing. As long as you have turned in the service agreement and site plan (if necessary), which you have, we'll get to you soon!
11:11AM August 06, 2019
Are there any flyers we could get for a neighborhood meeting in a week? I'd love to get my neighborhood involved.
4:46PM August 06, 2019
Hi Jennifer, thank you for your interest in Truestream and for wanting to champion our cause! We have Champions kits at each of our offices that contain marketing and promotional material just for this purpose! Our Boyne City office is open 8 am - 4:30 pm M-F. If you can't make it into the office before your neighboorhood meeting, I can also email a flier you can print and show folks. Please let me know if you have any questions!
9:32AM August 05, 2019
Is Trustream applying for the FCC grants to build out the high speed F/O into rural areas? Our less than reliable local Telco internet (up to 15 mbps on a good day) is the only game where I live in western central Kalkaska County and we need better internet access today.
1:47PM August 06, 2019
Hi Michael, thank you for your interest in Truestream, and we understand your struggle! We take this project seriously and are definitely applying for grants. In fact, we have already received some grant funding. If you have any additional questions, please let me know!
9:07AM August 02, 2019
Hey Julie! I've been noticing more trucks in the Harbor Springs area recently, and I keep having family/friends asking me if I know about any updates. Is there a chance further construction will be happening in our area in 2019? Thank you!
1:46PM August 06, 2019
Hey Tyler, great question! Installing a fiber network takes a lot of people and a lot of steps. We have had a couple of our framing crews (the first step) finish up in our Phase 1 area so they are able to move on to our Phase 2 area a bit ahead of schedule. Does this mean you will get service sooner? Possibly, but we can't guarantee that yet. If you have any questions, please let me know.
1:14PM August 01, 2019
How is it looking for the Cross Village area? I havent' noticed any of the coils of wire past Beckon Rd. so I was just wondering.. Is there a map somewhere that shows where Truestream will be installed next? Thanks,
1:06PM August 06, 2019
Hi Patricia, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We are working on a project that will show construction progress, so stay tuned for that! What I can say for now though is most of the Cross Village area is part of our Phase 2 construction plan. Phase 2 will see a majority of the construction and installations take place in 2020. The wires and coils you see now are parts of our main fiber lines that connect our electric substations. If you have any questions, please let me know!
3:19PM July 01, 2019
BRING TO MIDDLEVILLE. There are 100's of homes that would love your service. We really NEED this in our area much sooner than later. I have dozens neighbors that want your service now. Thanks
3:36PM July 01, 2019
Keep talking to your neighbors, friends, and relatives Donald and encourage them to register their interest! Demand will help us determine where to build next!
5:27PM June 28, 2019
Hello. Can I sign up for only the phone service? Can I sign up for only phone service now and add cable at a later date? Can I keep my landline phone number? Would I still use the phones I have now?
3:34PM July 01, 2019
Hi Bill, thank you for your interest in Truestream! You can sign up for phone only. We don't offer cable TV, but you could add our internet to your phone service anytime. You should be able to keep your current phone number and use your existing phones. If you have any questions or would like me to adjust your plan selection, please let me know!
8:39AM June 26, 2019
Louis R. Zako MD
We live at Birchwood Farms Golf & Country Club in West Traverse Township. For the past week GLE has been working around the clubhouse. Is this work a part of the Truestream initiative, and if so, when will individual homeowners at Birchwood have access to your new fiberoptic service/
3:35PM June 26, 2019
Hi Dr. Zako, the crews working in Birchwood right now are doing electrical work, not Truestream work, yet. Birchwood is part of our West Traverse area in Phase 2, where construction will likely begin in 2020. If you have additional questions, please let me know!
2:46PM June 12, 2019
Hi Julie, We received an email contract, but I can not print it out. The form requested a site plan for our home on Walloon Lake. Is it possible to send the contract in the mail so we can attach a site plan? This is for 7188 Kurtz Crossing, Boyne City. Our home address is 5882 Amys Way, Harbor Springs,Mi 49740. Hope all is well with you. Susan Cavell
1:58PM June 13, 2019
Hi Susan, it is good to hear from you, I hope all is well! I will get a copy of the site plan dropped in the mail for you today! Please let me know if you need anything else.
1:39PM June 11, 2019
I'm out on Pincherry Rd. My neighbor across the street has service, just wondering when it will be complete for the rest of us here. I currently use 4G ATT, now that the tourists are here, it has slowed to a crawl.
7:02AM June 08, 2019
I will need underground from pole to home how deep do they bury the fiber cable?
10:39AM June 12, 2019
Hi Jim, thank you for your interest in Truestream! The fiber lines are generally 18" deep. Hope this helps, and if you have any questions, please let me know!
11:17AM June 07, 2019
Julie, Thank you for the link. From the Boyne Update it looks like our area isn't until 2020 if I read it corretly. Roger
3:48PM September 30, 2019
Julie, Any update on our area. May need to sign up for satellite internet and if we lock in for two years our rates are cheaper, but don't want to be handcuffed if truestream is coming our way next year. I know you don't have a crystal ball, but have they discussed plans for next year. Roger
10:30AM June 12, 2019
Hi Roger, yes, we will be doing a fielding study this summer, bring that information back to the board in the fall, and if funding is approved, construction could begin in 2020. If you have any questions, please let me know!
4:44PM June 06, 2019
hi just wondering I have the line from the pole to my house buried everything looks ready when will it be finished not the fiber line a tube line its been 3 weeks that this was done again just wondering can't wait
10:34AM June 07, 2019
Hey Dale, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! We've brought on an additional crew to get the drops (bringing the fiber line from the road to the side if your house) installed as fast as possible. We will be there, we promise!
2:57PM June 06, 2019
Julie, Any update for those of us in Marion Township (Charlevoix). Seams to be a lot of focus in Boyne and Petoskey and that is all. We are limited to cellular (very poor reception) or satellite (very expensive) as our only choice for internet. You are not focusing on those with little choice. Roger 23 year Great Lakes Energy Customer!
9:57AM June 07, 2019
Hi Roger, thank you for your interest in Truestream! When areas like Petoskey and Boyne are mentioned, it isn't in reference to the towns, it is our electric service territory. The Boyne area includes rural parts of Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, and Otsego counties. More information about the Boyne fielding study can be found at https://www.truestreamfiber.com/boyne_update/. If you have any additional questions, please let me know!
2:43PM June 05, 2019
We live on Beckon RD (3350). I have read about a site plan may be needed if your service will be underground. Ours will be underground. How do you submit a site plan? How detailed does it have to be? Can the site plan be emailed?. Can I decide where the service will enter the house?
9:38AM June 07, 2019
Hi John, yes we will need a site plan for underground service to be installed. It would have been included with the service agreement we emailed, but we can send another copy via email or mail. It will need to be filled out by hand and sent back to us via email or mail before we can proceed with installation to your home. Please let me know how we can help get that document to you!
9:55PM June 04, 2019
Hi there. I am on van Road between larks Lake and State Road. I know you’re in the area because I get through stream popping up on my wireless offerings on my phone and either end of Vann Road. I called a couple of weeks ago and was told I would be sent a site plan, but nothing ever came. Can you advise me on when we will be having connection here? Thank you!
9:11AM June 07, 2019
Hi William, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! There are several folks out in your area that are part of our Petoskey A1 and A2 group, meaning they are within 1,500 ft of our main lines that connect our electric substations. Unfortunately, your home is not. Construction for your area will start in 2020. If you have any questions, please let me know!
4:22PM June 04, 2019
hi, Jeff here. they put white flags in my yard for underground. do you think they will get to me Petoskey a2 soon? June? July? August? I am eager to start paying :-)
4:19PM June 06, 2019
Hi Jeff, The white flags are the proposed route for the electric or fiber line. I assume you aren't upgrading your electric service and we were there to mark the proposed fiber route :-). From this point, MISS DIG will still have to come out and mark other utilities - as soon as you see those flags, you can mark your own underground facilities (if you have any near the white flags). Actual underground installation should be done approximately within 2-4 weeks of those white flags appearing. Soon, my friend!
3:09PM May 30, 2019
Hi Julie! I apologize in advance for asking, as I am guessing you get these questions all day, every day! I emailed at the beginning of May and they mentioned that we would be installed late May/June. I hadn't heard from the Fiber Coordinators so I emailed again a few days ago and they're now saying July/August for home installation. Could you confirm? THANK YOU for your help!!! We work from home and can't wait for this!
11:40AM May 31, 2019
Hi Lisa, don't apologize, I want to answer as many questions you have! With the late start to spring and frost laws being active a bit longer than we hoped they would be (not entirely sure it has fully made it up here yet), construction was delayed a bit. Late June/early July is the time frame to begin the in-home installations in both the Hayes and Petoskey East areas and installations will continue through the summer. It looks like we have all your paperwork, so you should be all set with the time does come, and thank you for your patience!
12:19PM May 24, 2019
Have you given any consideration to the areas that do not currently have internet access?
3:52PM May 24, 2019
Hi Doug, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! Unlike our electrical service territory that is regulated by the state, providing the internet is the wild wild west. We have no control over who serves what area or doesn't serve an area. Throughout each of our areas on our Truestream Areas tab, there is a wide range of internet service providers, along with pockets of no service. This is why we have decided to factor demand in our decision on where we build - no internet options should have the most demand. If you have any questions, please let me know!
2:07PM May 20, 2019
Hi Julie, Any plans for 2021? We are in the Wayland area and other than Boyne, it looks like the Wayland area has the next biggest set of supporters. We are in an area with the options are few and far between, so we are very interested in getting the fiber network installed. BTY, this is the 2nd of 3rd time I have had to repost the the same comment.....wondering if anyone else is having the same issue? Thank you.
11:28AM June 06, 2019
Tim, I agree with you the southern Great Lakes Customers are not a priority! They really need to dial back the hype!
3:58PM May 23, 2019
Hi Tim, I apologize for the delayed answer. My answer is we don't have an answer to that, yet. As we get a bit deeper into the Boyne project and results of the fielding studies in that area, we will be in a better position to look beyond 2020. We'll keep everyone posted!
11:13AM May 20, 2019
Hello Truestream! I am one of three homes with addresses on Larks Lake Road north of Beckon Road. I believe my two neighbors received Truestream and we are next on the list but its taking longer for underground work? Someone stopped by my home last month and we resubmitted paperwork because Site Plan was lost in the mail somehow. We sent another in via email. Other neighbors south of us are wondering as well. I called in and you did say end of May. Just wondering if that is still true for us. I hope so. I'm gonna throw a party for neighbors out here . . . CAN'T WAIT!!!
4:34PM May 23, 2019
Hi Lynn, now that the weather is nice we are trying to catch up as fast as we can! It looks like we have everything we need from you, I don't have an exact time they will be out there yet. but it is only a matter of time now!
8:57AM May 14, 2019
Good Morning! I live in Petoskey East. I completed the online sign-up last fall, received an e-mail to complete the registration process, signed it and e-mailed it back to you about 3 weeks ago. I've also seen some very nice looking trucks installing cables on my road! Noticed yesterday that someone had a question about a "site plan". Do I need to submit one in order to get hooked up or is that optional? Thanks!
3:42PM May 14, 2019
Julie - thanks so much. All of our lines are overhead so I guess we're good ! No sprinkler system or dog fence, but yes on the propane and septic. However, tThey are at the opposite end of the property and the electric lines are right down the middle. :)
11:00AM May 14, 2019
Hi Diane! You are getting soooo close to becoming an official Truestreamer! If you have underground electric, we will need that site plan back, because your fiber will be going underground too. If you have overhead electric, you don't need to worry about it. MISS DIG will come out and mark all the utilities, but if happen to have a sprinkler system, dog fence, propane or septic we would like to have a general idea of where those types of things are before we come out and dig.
10:34AM May 09, 2019
Would you have a seasonal rate? I noticed it mentioned in a previous comment but that is not listed as an option under Products. If so, what would that rate be?
10:24AM May 13, 2019
Hi Gwen, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We do have a vacation plan in place now. If you are interested, you will register for the full-time plan that is right for you, then give us a call when you would like it put on vacation. If you have any questions, please let me know!

was looking at map in the waters area 489 and Miller rd saw lots of blue little lines is this people that are sign signed up ? Because where we live were no hash marks and were signed up.
11:42AM May 13, 2019
Hi Heather - the blue hash marks are just part of the map, nothing to do with the Truestream sign-ups! If you have any questions, please let me know.
4:31PM May 01, 2019
how can I get a site plan?
2:23PM May 02, 2019
Hey David, you can visit https://www.truestreamfiber.com/forms/ to find a copy of the site plan to print and fill out to return to us!
11:20AM April 29, 2019
Julie, Thanks for keeping us up to date on everything. I wanted to check if there was a more specific time frame for hook up to our location. We have seen the flags from truestream and are excited to get set up. I wanted to make sure there was nothing additional you needed from me.
9:24AM May 06, 2019
Julie, Thanks for the reply. I found the email with the site plan. We will complete this today and fed ex it over. How long after can we expect installation to begin? Thanks for all your help.
10:24AM May 01, 2019
Hey Anthony, it looks like we are still waiting on the site plan from you and unfortunately, it cannot be returned electronically. Do you need another copy?
10:33PM April 25, 2019
Is there any additional information about a connection schedule for those in A2?
8:25AM May 01, 2019
Thanks for the update.
4:32PM April 29, 2019
Hi Marty, it will likely be sometime in May or maybe June for installation in your neck of the woods!
1:37AM April 29, 2019
Yes of course, I'm just wondering if it will be May or August when they get to my area.
8:45AM April 26, 2019
Hi Marty - Frost laws just came off this week, so we are sending out the underground crews now. Your still interest in installation right? We know it's been a long winter of waiting!
10:08AM April 23, 2019
Any plans for a seasonal rate on phone to go with the seasonal rate on internet? (No, I'm not suddenly retiring to become a snowbird. Asking for a friend.)
3:19PM April 24, 2019
Hi Jessica, it's been a while! We do have a vacation plan for phone services as well, it is $15 a month, and gives access to 911 and allows you to keep your number. You can take advantage of that rate for up to 6 months per the calendar year, and there is no bundle discount when on the vacation rate. Please let me know if you have any questions!
10:39AM April 20, 2019
Should I have received any paperwork yet for installation?
12:06PM April 22, 2019
Hi Jamie, thanks for your interest in Truestream! It looks like you are part of our Petoskey West area, you should be getting an email with the service agreement in about a week or so!
11:52PM April 17, 2019
Hey Truestream - does router performance throttle or slow speeds and is a performance matching router included with the service installation? A very excited soon to be TS customer.
9:29AM April 18, 2019
Hi Keith, thanks for the great questions! Your router certainly could play a factor in speed and potentially throttling speeds, which is why we provide a router we know is capable of 1 Gig service to you, at no cost!
4:24PM April 17, 2019
I was told at the Petoskey home show that a form/paperowrk would be sent in the mail to be completed.. The faster the form is sent back than the faster the installation will occur. I'm located in the Petoskey_East area, would you be able to tell me when that information will be mailed? Thank you!
9:11AM April 18, 2019
Hi Tracy, the form is actually emailed and can be returned electronically. The email with your service agreement should have been sent out on April 17. Please check your junk folder if you haven't seen it yet. If you need a paper copy mailed to you, let me know and I will get it sent out!
11:04AM April 11, 2019
Julie, I understand the the business model GLE is using to build out the fiber network. I would like to comment that, in my opinion, being a co-op, there should be consideration given to where there are either zero or very few options for internet, not necessarily driven by top demand. Folks like us, where we are in the Wayland area have very few options, all of which do not come close to serving the needs in today's world. As some of other customers have commented, 8-10 years is plain and simply, a pipe dream.
9:09AM April 18, 2019
Hi Tim, thank you for your input. If there are limited options or no options and people want access, shouldn't the demand for high-speed fiber internet be higher in those areas? We understand the frustration of not having this vital access and the timeline, 8-10 years to cover our entire service area does sound like a long time. At least it is a timeline though, not just an empty promise. Internet service providers do not have regulated territories like electric providers do, so we have no control over who has or doesn't have access to high-speed internet, or where those people may be. Because of this, we think factoring in the demand level is important when making construction and engineering decisions.
11:27AM April 10, 2019
Julie, So am I understanding correctly that if we are farther up North Conway Rd. that it is going to be up to another year? Beverly
12:18PM April 10, 2019
Hi Beverly, thank you for your interest in Truestream! It looks like you are part of our Phase 2 area. Our plan for Phase 2 is for construction to begin about a year from now. If you have any additional questions, please let me know!
10:29AM April 10, 2019
8 - 10 years? I think probably dialing back the hype would be a good idea. Customers in the Wayland area seriously need other options and with this kind of timeline, I am no longer considering this a viable option. :(
10:23AM April 10, 2019
8 - 10 years? I would definitely dial back the hype with a schedule that long. Quite frustrating to be perfectly honest. :(
7:42PM May 30, 2019
Couldn’t Agee more with you Annie
12:12PM April 10, 2019
Hi Annie, we're sorry to disappoint you. We are working as quickly as we can, and yes, to cover our 26 counties it will take some time. We primarily target our communications and marketing to the areas we are actively working in, but we do put the information out there in our Country Lines magazine as well, to raise awareness overall. 8-10 years is our goal for complete construction, but that does not mean because Wayland is in our southern area it will be last. We will take demand into consideration when deciding where to build next.
8:45AM April 06, 2019
Seeing that I am in Ottaway County, the more southern end of y'all, are we looking at 2050 to get truestream? I'm just following the comments and how slowly moving things are up North there. I understand you say "the more interest there is in an area" but...by then, I would assume everything will be wireless. Heres to dreams
11:54AM April 08, 2019
Hi Dave, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! We expect our entire build (to all 26 counties we serve!) to be completed in 8-10 years. There are no rules that say we have to move north to south, so demand really will help us determine where to build next. If you have any questions, please let me know!
10:46PM April 02, 2019
Hi Julie, I received the email today that said GLE is coming to our neighborhood in Hayes TWP next. Great news so we're expecting the DocuSign and site plan mail next. Can you tell me normally about how long it takes to get scheduled for running the fiber to the house after the homeowner turns in their site plan? We're in Birdland off of Quarterline Rd. Thanks, Jeff Lear
11:48AM April 08, 2019
Hi Jeff and Valeri, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! We are starting a majority of the construction, branching off our main lines to all the other areas, in about a week. Construction in the Hayes area will take a little bit of time, we are expecting the in-home installations to begin in June. We will have more details once construction really starts up, so keep an eye on our Facebook page and the news section of truestreamfiber.com!
11:00AM April 08, 2019
I am in the same situation and had the same question. I am on Maple Grove Rd and have signed my paperwork. Will It be mid to late summer for us?
11:17AM March 29, 2019
I have had a number of people in the Middleville/Gun Lake/Rutland township area ask if they had to be a Great Lakes Energy electrical customer in order to have a potential for Truestream (this area is an endpoint for Great Lakes and Consumers for electricity). Is Truestream only sticking with Great Lakes electrical customers, or looking to the entire area?
5:30PM April 01, 2019
Hi Glen, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! The short answer, yes, for now. As Great Lakes Energy, we are an electric cooperative, meaning everyone we service is an owner, and we want to bring our high-speed fiber internet to them first! In the future, we may look at expanding outside our area, but for now, our members are our priority. Folks outside our service area are still welcome to register their interest, if we do decide to expand, their interest will help us determine where to go.
6:13AM March 29, 2019
HI, Do you know an estimation when Truestream will be available in Osceola County? I'm interested in this service. thanks Annette
5:22PM April 01, 2019
Hi Annette, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! We are currently working in our Petoskey Service area, which includes all of Emmet County and parts of Charlevoix and Cheboygan Counties. We will likely start construction in the next area in 2020. Demand will help us determine where to go next, so keep spreading the word and encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to register their no obligation interest!
2:00PM March 27, 2019
Julie, Thank you for the constant updates. For Hayes township, my location specifically, is there any more exact time frame than mid to late summer for final hookups? I imagine it may be too early to tell but figured I would ask. Thanks!
5:03PM April 01, 2019
Hi Anthony, It is still a bit too early to give a specific time. They have started some initial framing construction in our Hayes Area, but full construction is planned to begin on April 15th. You will be received some additional communications soon, including the service agreement. If you have any questions, let me know!
10:34AM March 24, 2019
We are registered for true steam in friendship township mi 49740 when can we expect service?
10:22AM March 26, 2019
Hi Sandy, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! It looks like you are part of our West Traverse area. West Traverse is part of our Phase 2 area, which will have construction and installations begin about a year from now, in 2020. Please let me know if you have any additional questions, thank you!
1:12PM March 10, 2019
Any word on what seasonal plans might look like? Or occasional suspended service requests? Thanks
2:09PM March 11, 2019
Hi Robert, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! We are working on putting our Vacation rates on the website now! Plans will be $25.00/mo. for a maximum of 6 months and is designed to be able to still operate a security system while you are away (1Mbps/3Mbps). More details will be available online soon!
7:44PM March 08, 2019
Hi. If I registered last summer for my area (Pellston North) am I on the list for free installation eligibility? <— and what does that mean? Do we get free installation or are there additional requirements? Also, once we get service in our area, are we able to change what we said we’d sign up for if we realize we need more/less?
1:00PM March 11, 2019
Hi Amber, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! If you have already registered (and I see you have), you are eligible for free installation. From a logistical standpoint, want anyone interested to register while we are still working in their area - which is why we are offering free installation. Once we move out of that area, there will be a fee of $149.00. Once we are installing in your area, we will confirm your interest and which plan will best suit your needs. You can change plans as needed, you will just pay (or save) the difference monthly. If you have any additional questions, please let me know!
3:35PM March 08, 2019
Hello, Where on this website am I able to send an email to my friends and family in the area to get them to sign up for truestream and become a supporter? Thank you! Loretta
12:55PM March 11, 2019
Hi Loretta, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! When you log in on www.jointruestream.com it will take you to your user dashboard. On the right, you will see a section that says Get Involved, Spread the Word. From there you can send an email invitation to your friends, neighbors, and family, and share to your social media accounts. If you have any questions, please let me know!
12:03PM March 08, 2019
So we you ever be the Mancelona area? What gets me your doing the money areas that already have internet services thru Charter why not go to areas that have to depend on Dish or one of those . That goes every time there is a snow storm or heavy rain . You would get way more people in those area but then again that were the money is at.
12:51PM March 11, 2019
Hi Brenda, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! We plan to bring our high-speed fiber internet to all 26 counties we serve, and they are currently in the planning phase of determining where to start construction next. By examining the characteristics of the Petoskey service district, we believe this area will give us a clear understanding of the challenges, costs, and benefits involved with this project. It contains a diverse membership with both permanent and seasonal residents and different types of terrain that would be encountered in the fiber optic cable installation. Members also have access to a wide selection of competing internet service providers, giving us a more realistic idea of a potential number of members who would take fiber internet service from GLE. If you have any additional questions, please let me know.
11:47AM March 04, 2019
Hey Julie! I'm so glad this is in the works. :) So, a friend of mine lives a little further down North Conway in Alanson and received a call that they were hooking up the internet today! Is it being hooked up for customer access here during March on North Conway? TIA
12:39PM March 11, 2019
Hi Jessica, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! Part of North Conway Rd is within 1,500 ft. of our main line that connects all of our electric substations, and those are the folks that can be connected right now. It looks like you are registered in our Oden area, which will start seeing service in about a year. If you have any additional questions, please let me know!
3:19PM February 26, 2019
Ken Wiegand We are in the Pellston South area (Chestnut Valley Golf Course). Will we have service by early Spring? We are trying to avoid signing up for satelite service. Thanks
10:44AM March 04, 2019
Hi Ken, as it stands now, Pellston South will move into the construction phase in early 2020. We're working as quickly as we can, so if anything changes with our construction timelines, we will let you know!
5:20PM February 23, 2019
are they working around the dorr and wayland area? cant get any type of internet out here were i live
11:35AM February 25, 2019
Hi Randy, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! Right now, we are working in our Petoskey service area, further up north. Later in 2019, we will be looking into which area to go to next, and demand will help us determine where to go in 2020. Spread the word and encourage your friends and family to register their no-obligation interest too!
2:02PM February 19, 2019
I live in a rural area of your service. Based on the percentage of customers interested in your internet, I will never get it. I have been a long time GLE customer. I know I chose to live where I live, but why do you concentrate your efforts on areas that have multiple choices for high speed internet? You would think you would focus on customers that have no or limited access to high speed internet. I know it is all about dollars and cents, but remember how and why you started to do what you do. My two cents?
10:07AM February 21, 2019
Roger, I agree with your comments and can empathize with your situation as we are in the very same situation in our service area, Wayland. Realistically I doubt that we will see this service come to fruition for at least 5 years or more, especially being the southern most service area for GLE. We have very few options for internet and all fall short in either bandwidth, data caps or pricing. As exciting as this first was, reality is that it seems to be merely another pipe dream. My 2 pennies.
1:34PM February 20, 2019
Hi Roger, I will try to answer both your questions with just one reply. We wish we could provide high-speed fiber internet service to ALL 26 counties we serve in rural Michigan at once, but that just isn't possible because we want to be smart with how we go about this. We chose our Petoskey service area, which is all of Emmet County, and parts of Charlevoix and Cheboygan counties as our pilot area for multiple reasons, and one of those is because of the variety of internet options. We cannot control who chooses to provide internet services to which area. Things like terrain and our member base were also factors. Please don't confuse us saying Petoskey service area with the city of Petoskey, we are only bringing our services to our rural Great Lakes Energy members. We feel confident if we can make a go of it factoring in competition (and don't get us wrong, A LOT of our people in the area have no options), seasonal, full-time and business accounts, and the varied economic backgrounds in the area, we will be able to expand our construction into our other areas. We have divided out Petoskey service area into smaller sections, with roughly the same number of meters in each area - and that is what we use to factor the demand for our service. Areas with no options then theoretically should have the highest demand right? When we move into a new area for construction, we will divide that area up into smaller, similar sized sections as well. If you have any additional questions, please let me know, thank you.
3:46PM February 18, 2019
Why so slow to expand into the Charlevoix area. We have spent just as much money on Electricity as the other areas.
12:04PM February 17, 2019
I miss the filters on the Supporters page. Can they be brought back?
2:12PM February 21, 2019
The search filters are back, thanks, Jessica!
8:46AM February 18, 2019
We'll look into it and let you know Jessica!
8:55PM February 12, 2019
Great Lakes Energy corporate is located in Boyne City. WHY is Boyne City the last to be hooked up? I would think you would show a little neighborly love.
4:32PM February 14, 2019
Hi Fred, thank you for your interest in Truestream! I wouldn't say Boyne area is the LAST to be connected, we have nine areas and are actively working in one right now. We chose the Petoskey area after we conducted several feasibility studies. That area was determined to be most representative of our entire 26 county service area - varied terrain, varied income levels, a mix of residential, seasonal, and business members, and multiple internet providers available. We feel if we can make it work with all those conditions, we can confidently go forward into our other areas! If you have any additional questions, please let me know!
8:48PM February 04, 2019
Is the fiber ran to the modem or does the fiber get converted to coax cable?
10:42AM February 05, 2019
Hi Robert, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! We do indeed run fiber to the unit inside your home. From there, if you want a device hardwired, it would be a CAT 5 or CAT 6 cable. If you have any questions, please let me know!
6:00AM February 04, 2019
Becky & Phillip Zuydwegt
Will the new internet lines be above or below ground?
1:26PM February 04, 2019
Hi Becky & Phillip, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! Our plan is for the fiber lines to follow the same path as our electric lines. If the electric is overhead, the fiber will be overhead, if the electric us underground, the fiber will be as well. If you have any additional questions, please let me know!
11:37PM February 03, 2019
Hello, I found out about Truestream just today. I am curious if GLE has an end date for 100% installation. We will be building a home in the Newaygo area. Thanks!
6:04PM February 04, 2019
Hey Marc, Let's see if we can clear this all up! When we say Petoskey service area, we to our Great Lakes Energy members in that area only, and we only serve rural folks throughout Michigan, no cities for us! We serve 26 counties in Michigan, from the tip of the mitt to south of Grand Rapids. Since that is such a large service area, we are planning to bring our high-speed fiber internet to all members within 10 years. When we move construction into an area, say Newaygo, our plan is to bring service to everyone in that service area that wants it before we move on. If you have any questions, let me know!
4:26PM February 04, 2019
Thanks for the reply, Julie. Sorry, it seems I didn't phrase my question right. Our property is on the very southern edge of GLE's service area near Cedar Springs (not too far from Newaygo). It is sparsely populated in a homeowners' association (10 acre parcels) with residents who have been getting by either with slow internet, expensive internet, or without internet altogether. I could be a champion for the area, but it is certainly not a high-demand, higher-density area like Petoskey. My question is in regard to what year GLE expects to be able to offer Truestream to 100% of their customers. If our area had the least demand, when would fiber finally arrive? Thanks!
1:24PM February 04, 2019
Hi Marc, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! We aren't necessarily waiting until an area is at 100% before we will build there, we are using that more as a gage for demand. Right now we are working in our Petoskey service area. Later this year, we will start looking at which area to build in next, with that construction likely starting in 2020. Demand will help us determine where to build next, so encourage your friends and neighbors to register their interest as well!
12:45PM February 01, 2019
Hi truestream, any plans for Grayling ( outside of city ) and if so when are you planning to install?
5:39PM February 01, 2019
Hi Paul, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! As long as you have Great Lakes Energy for your electric service, we plan on bringing our high-speed fiber internet to you! Right now we are working in our Petoskey service area, but we plan on expanding construction into the next area in 2020. Later this year we will be looking at which area to go to next, and demand will help us determine where to go! Keep encouraging your friends, family, and neighbors to register their interest!
3:32AM January 28, 2019
Hello Truestream. I am very excited for this fiber!!! I just have some questions. So first about 2-3 weeks ago we were told someone would be out here to look in a couple weeks. Just wondering how long that usually is. Also can you do overhead or no? We have overhead right now.
11:48AM January 28, 2019
Hi Jacob, Thank you for your interest in Truestream. Our reps talked to another person on the account last week, and let her know it would be a couple weeks still - and this super cold weather isn't helping our crews, that is for sure! Our fiber lines will follow the path of the electric lines, so if you have overhead electric to your home, the fiber line will be run overhead as well. Please let me know if you have any more questions!
3:11PM January 18, 2019
I received a request to send in our application and also a drawing of our property and where septic, well etc are located. How far in advance of beginning installation do you usually request this information? In other words, is it likely we will have installation in early Spring? Thanks, Tena
11:04AM January 24, 2019
Hi Tena, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! Having a service agreement is definitely a good thing! Once the ground thaws a bit, you will be on the schedule to start the installation process. If you have any questions, please let me know!
2:29PM January 18, 2019
Greetings. Looking at the colored map, my area seems to be surrounded by Hayes, which is in Phase 1.....but my specific micro-neighborhood is not highlighted. We are wedged between Hayes and The Lake, but not colored yellow. When I registered, it listed us as Phase 1 and within Hayes. Is there a reason the map excludes us?
10:59AM January 24, 2019
Hi JJ, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! If you have Great Lakes Energy for your electric, we wouldn't dare dream of skipping you! There is a small section, near US 31 to the lake that we don't serve. If you zoom in close enough, your specific location is not in that missing area, you are indeed in our Hayes area. If you have any questions, please let me know!
4:10PM January 16, 2019
I have a question regarding Instillation. Will I be able to hard wire my computers via Ethernet cables to the WiFi-enabled router?
10:42AM January 24, 2019
Hi Arthur, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! You sure can connect your computers directly into the WiFi enabled router, there are four ports available. Our installation techs will be more than happy to assist you with wiring all your devices, how you would like when the time comes. If you have any additional questions, please let me know!
4:07PM January 16, 2019
We live in a rural area and have few good IPS options and no great options. Really looking forward to having a fast reliable wired internet connection. We depend on internet to monitor security and heating systems when we are not home as well as some limited streaming entertainment, email, etc when we are home. Providing solid internet to low population density areas is a true public service undertaking. Thank you Truestream & GLE.
10:38AM January 24, 2019
Hi Bruce, Thank you for your interest in Truestream, and your kind words! We are really excited and honored, to be able to provide such a needed service to so much of rural Michigan. If you have any questions, please let me know!
4:05PM January 16, 2019
If we are located in a subdivision that has underground utilities, will you bring it into the sub? I'm showing in your Phase 1 area.
10:36AM January 24, 2019
Hi Ashley, Thank you for your interest in Truestream, and yes! If you have electric service with Great Lakes Energy, you will have the option for fiber internet through Truestream! Our plan is to follow the path of the electric lines, so if they are underground, the fiber lines will be as well. If you have any questions, please let me know.
12:27PM January 04, 2019
I've seen the crews on Pincherry Rd. Any word on when they're going to connect us?
11:33AM January 07, 2019
Hi Ron, thank you for your interest in Truestream! Most of Pincherry Rd, but not all, is included in our Hayes Area. Hayes, Resort, Petoskey East and Petoskey West are all included in our Phase 1 of the Petoskey area. Phase 1 construction will begin as time and resources allow, with full construction beginning in the spring, with in-home installations starting beginning in the summer. Please let me know if you have any additional questions!
10:04AM January 04, 2019
Right now all I have for internet is wireless (ATT) internet which is very expensive and not very consistent. I work for Trinity Health at the Local Hospitals and manage all of their servers and networking needs. I work from home mostly, 4 out of 5 days a week which is great. I really need fast internet service where I live and would love to be a customer or a beta tester for you. Is it possible to find out when you are coming to my area? Thanks Ed Dahl
11:36AM January 07, 2019
Hi Edward, thank you for your interest in Truestream! Right now, we are actively working in our Petoskey service area. In 2020, we will likely begin construction in our next area, outside of the Petoskey area. Demand will help us determine where to build next, so be sure to encourage your neighbors, friends, and family to register their no obligation interest, your area could be next!
12:01PM January 02, 2019
Shawn, it was great to finally meet you after all our communications! You've kept us on our toes, but also been a big supporter of the project at the same time. I hope to see more updates from you as time goes on!
11:54AM January 02, 2019
Hey Jason, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We are finalizing our construction and designs now for our Petoskey service area, and we will have an announcement Friday with additional details, so stay tuned!
11:52AM January 02, 2019
Hey Jeff, thank you for your interest in Truestream! Our construction and engineering teams are working on their final design plans for the Petoskey service areas right now. We will have a construction announcement on Friday, both here, under the Updates tab, as well as on our Facebook page. I would encourage you to encourage all your neighbors to register their (no obligation) interest now, while installation costs are free!
11:45AM January 02, 2019
Hi Jamie, thank you for your interest in Truestream! It looks like you are part of our Petoskey A2 group. We are looking at spring (once the ground thaws) for a majority of those underground installations. Patience is a virtue, right?
11:39AM January 02, 2019
Hi Sally, thank you for your interest in Truestream! Our construction and engineering teams are finishing up on their final planning for our Petoskey service area as we speak. We expect to have an announcement letting everyone know which area(s) we will be branching out into and when on Friday! Check back here in the updates section, or visit our Facebook page for the live announcement!

Just some kudos to the GLE/Truestream team. I've had months of back and forth communication with multiple people in the organization, and I was hesitantly optimistic about the fiber rollout. Then a couple weeks ago, a friend got their install. It went well. Then about a week after that, a friend down the road from my place got their install. It also went well. On New Year's Eve, I was the lucky first install of the day. Not only did the install go well, but some concerns I had were addressed with reasoned, truthful responses. (specifically, why people were advised not to change their WiFi SSIDs -- due to frequent initial updates potentially resetting modems to default) My non-standard installation was met with excitement, not frustration. And when things didn't go quite right with hardware (totally due to my unique requests), I wasn't fluffed off. Rather, one of the network techs is looking into it, and he has a history of getting back with me personally. Best of all, during the install, I got a visit from the same person I communicated with online. And even got a gift for asking so many difficult questions over the past few months. LOL! The Truestream team was professional, kind, and acted like you'd expect a CO-OP to act. Like people. I'm proud to be a part of the initial rollout, and I can assure everyone who is waiting for the build-out -- it will be worth the wait. Not just for the Internet service, but for the customer service as well. :)

Just wondering if there are any updates on the pellston north location?
4:23PM December 31, 2018
@Julie_Bailey, Hello from Birdland Estates in Hayes TWSP! Like many, we are wondering when we could get an update on the scheduling of Truestream for our neighborhood. It appears we're tracking fairly well but I know many will be asking if we'll have it going in by next June as the place generally fills up around that time of year. Please let me know when we could expect any decisions or what the protocol to be informed will be so I can actively communicate to the rest of our homeowners as they start to plan for UpNorth 2019. Thanks for your help.
10:18PM December 29, 2018
Hello Julie, I see an SSID with Truestream in the name out here on Pleasantview. Should I be expecting contact soon? I know that fiber core is hung past my house so I’m really eager to get the rest of this install scheduled to my premises and start using the service. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!
4:30PM December 28, 2018
We registered for service on 7-23-18. Could you update us as to when you expect to bring us on line ?
10:05AM December 28, 2018
Hi John, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We have tried to create areas to include a similar number of address, which is why some look larger than others. If we go by demand, and the Pellston area has no options, shouldn't everyone in that area, no matter how rural or remote, be flocking to sign up? Demand is also just ONE of the factors we are using to determine where to build when branching off our main fiber lines. Our engineering and construction departments have other considerations factored in to help determine where to build as well.
9:56AM December 28, 2018
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Barbara! Your estimate it pretty close, we will get there! We'll keep spreading the word to get everyone to visit www.jointruestream.com if you do!
9:25PM December 27, 2018
I am disappointed in your method of choosing where to build first. setting each of the areas to a percent of 600 signups seems unfair. There is no way that a rural area like Pelltson north is going to be able to compete with the more populated areas. The race was rigged from the get go.
12:00PM December 23, 2018
Barbara j. Bradford
Merry Christmas to all the Champions right here, and to those that help us achieve the goals we all share. To Julie Bailey, you are a sparkle gem we do cherish. I had off the cuff given a number I hoped we would reach by Christmas, it was 10,000. Today we see 8,902 so we are oh so close to that number. I would think now that some are using the service it will increase interest, I hope so...Sure am excited to think just maybe we have enough to see us come in next for service area, Time will tell. GLE. we belong to the family and we really tried hard...not done until it is all we can have. So many still ask have you heard, is it us? Enjoy the season, the reason is everything. Later.....
3:28PM December 21, 2018
Hi Larry, The exact number of crews at any given time varies. Generally speaking, we have crews that work on overhead construction, underground construction, splicing (joining) the lines, and then we have our in-home installers as well. We are actively working during the winter, but due to weather-related issues and state and county regulations, we have fewer crews out working now than you will see come spring. If you have any other questions, please let me know!
12:44PM December 20, 2018
Thanks for the reply Julie. Just curious, how many crews are working on the fiber optic install?
3:55PM December 18, 2018
Daniel, you did mention that earlier and I apologize for not addressing it. I am not sure who installed that fiber optic cable in your subdivision, but since we are not the ones who installed it, we will not be using it. We will install our own when the time comes.
3:15PM December 18, 2018
Hi Larry, thank you for your interest in Truestream, and wanting to take advantage of the postcards! Unfortunately, we have had intermittent issues with the program, so we are removing it for now and looking for a better option. In the meantime, you can stop by the Wayland office and get marketing materials to pass along to friends and neighbors encouraging them to register their interest! If you have any questions, please let me know!
3:12PM December 18, 2018
Hi Barbara, it is good to hear from you again! Keep up the good work, but remember to enjoy the holidays too!
10:22AM December 18, 2018
Julie, You stated that because some of the homes in my subdivision are over 1500 feet from your main line that puts all of us in Petoskey East instead of Petoskey A2. However since the subdivision was wired for fiber optics when the subdivision was built I believer your main hookup is less than 200 feet and then its just hooking up to homes. Would this not still make us A2?
4:05PM December 17, 2018
Hello Julie, I would like to send out postcards from my Middleville (Wayland)area but no addresses came up to use. Could be the slow internet I have. Hint hint :-) It's possible I may be able to use another program for addresses to cut and paste but I need access to the postcards. Or can you look at my area to get the addresses to populate? Just in my neighborhood I have 4 people who run a home business that were ecstatic to learn fiber optic is coming. This area won't be turning our service off because it's winter. We aren't seasonal occupants We live here year round! Wayland next! Wayland next! Wayland next!

1,993 is not many can we see that filled in a week? talk to everyone, let's see if we can pull it out...10,000 Champions in the making?
5:05AM December 17, 2018
Barbara j. Bradford
My thoughts a while ago of 10,000 by Christmas was a hopeful guess estimate. However, it looks a lot more realistic each day. I congratulate all that have made a hookup and those seriously close! It just might be a reality yet. I watch wondering what happened to the announcement of the next selected place that was to come out in November? If I missed the news darn it. So much is changing rapidly now. Have to give Julie a call and tell her how much she has helped all of us that are trying to get Truestream in our areas. I have checked back on my 2 major contacts, and yes I see numbers moving along, I know Vet's are getting information from our Vets Center here, That is terrific news for them and when Truestream is in place, I am sure it can help very much in home contacts. It hit our Commission on Ageing "UPDATE". I know that too will be wonderful for Seniors some more in home settings will find Truestream helps them reach out too. Regards to everyone @ GLE -with a Merry Christmas wish to every Household in Northern Michigan, it will come, YES IT WILL! REMEMBER YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE, PASS THE WORD, TELL A FRIEND, NEIGHBOR AND FAMILY MEMBER THAT IS WITHIN THE BOUNDS OF GLE....WE MATTER AND IT IS COMING TRUE FOR SOME DAILY.
1:57PM December 14, 2018
Hi Janice - I apologize for the delay, but it sounds like you are all set with your service agreement, you should be seeing us out there soon! If you have any questions, please let me know!
10:48AM December 14, 2018
Hi Dale, thank you for your interest in Truestream! It looks like you are indeed in our Petoskey A2 area! We are still on track for starting installations in the spring for our Petoskey A2 folks. As we get a little closer, we will be in contact. In the mean-time, please let me know if you have any questions!
10:30AM December 14, 2018
Hi Daniel, thank you for your interest in Truestream! Several of the homes in your subdivision are within 1,500 ft. of our main line, which could make them a Petoskey A2. When it comes to subdivisions though, we want to connect everyone interest at the same time, making your area Petoskey East, not Petoskey A2. Good news though, you will still see construction and in-home installations in 2019 still! If you have any questions, please let me know!
9:51AM December 14, 2018
Hey Tyler, sorry for the delay in response! The Harbor Springs area is looking like a 2020 project. Our engineering and design teams are working on the construction plans now, so we will have more details to release soon - keep an eye out in our updates section for that!
3:43PM December 10, 2018
I believe I just successfully signed up. Will you be sending me a contract, or will someone be coming to my home to stake out area?
4:58PM December 07, 2018
hi Julie just asking but do you see cross village area on the list this spring a little south of cross village I see the wire about 100 feet from my house thanks just asking
12:27PM December 07, 2018
Hey Julie, I just left a message saying I was in Petoskey east but when I looked up my name it says A2. My next door neighbor shows in Petoskey East as does the house next to him. But, I know a lot of my neighbors that are signed up don't show on Petoskey East. We live in Scenic Farms subdivision and I was told that fiber optics was run thru the subdivision when it was built. Just trying to get more info.
8:48PM December 01, 2018
Hey Julie, I know you've answered this many times with other customers but I'd like to ask specifically for my area: Do you think we're looking at a 2019 installation date for Pleasantview Road in Harbor Springs? Or is it likely this will be a couple of years down the road if Harbor Springs doesn't pass the other areas on the interested list? Thanks!
1:17PM November 28, 2018
Hi Evan, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! We don't have any set timelines, but I can tell you what our plans are, so far. Summer of 2019 is when we will start branching off of our main lines, out into other areas. We will likely start construction in two areas at once, and those will be the two areas with the highest demand. So far that is Petoskey East and Hayes. Petoskey West (your area) is third in demand. If that demand remains as it is now, we estimate starting on construction and installations in Petoskey West sometime in the fall of 2019. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
11:56AM November 28, 2018
Julie, Looking at alternative services via satellite but don't want to go that route. I am wondering if we can expect service in 2019? We are on Jones Landing south west of Petoskey. Any info would be greatly appreciated so I can make a good decision. Thanks Evan
10:33AM November 26, 2018
Hi Howard, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We don't like paying fees, and we figure you don't want to either! While we are actively working in your area, there are no installation or start-up fees, for a standard installation. If you have any questions, please let me know!
4:03PM November 24, 2018
Hi Is there a start up cost or installation cost for the internet service? Howard
3:37PM November 21, 2018
Hi Mike, thank you for your interest in Truestream. We are still working on the final details for the business plans, including static IP addresses. We will likely have plan pricing out this winter, and available closer to the spring, so keep an eye out for that info. If you have any questions, please let me know!
2:32PM November 20, 2018
Julie, What is the cost for business for the 1 gig service and static ip addresses?
11:36AM November 19, 2018
Hi Martin, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! Anything is possible, but with the weather we have had this "fall", underground installations (Petoskey A2) will only become more and more difficult. Spring is looking like a better estimate, and let's hope that comes early!
11:33AM November 19, 2018
Hi Justin, Thank you for being a Champion! We send a monthly e-newsletter to our Champions, and if you would like, you can pick up a Champions kit at any of our Great Lakes Energy offices. The kits contain promotional materials you will find helpful when talking to folks about registering their interest!
11:23AM November 19, 2018
Hi Devin, we don't have any exact timeframes in place yet. It looks like you are part of our Petoskey West area, which is third for demand. You will likely see construction and installations starting sometime in 2019.
10:12AM November 19, 2018
Hi Matthew, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! We don't have any set timelines for when we will be in each area. In 2019 we will start looking at which area we will go to after the Petoskey service area, and construction in that area will likely begin in 2020. Where we go next is influenced by the number of registrations. So, even if you are not in one of the first areas, keep spreading the word. The registrations truly mean something to us!
8:21PM November 18, 2018
Martin Van Berlo
Is it possible that we will see service in Area 2, Emmet Heights and Carob Rd , Harbor Springs this year?
6:45PM November 18, 2018
hi Julie I was just wondering if I will be contacted about being a champion for this or if I have to do something further.
12:00AM November 17, 2018
Hey Julie, what is the ETA for my area. Just curious more than anything to get an idea of when to expect. Please and thank you.
4:52PM November 16, 2018
When do you think you will be in the Newaygo area by chance.
4:45PM November 15, 2018
Thanks for the info Julie. We can get a refund for the unused months but at a higher rate. It will be okay, but one can have hopes!
3:44PM November 15, 2018
Oh no, Robert...Unfortunately, we are not able to get to your area until late December. Do you have ok cell service up your way, you could potentially do a hot spot for a month or so?
9:56AM November 15, 2018
Julie - I wrote a comment earlier and when I refreshed the page it disappeared - sorry if this duplicates it. Can you give me an estimate of when we might get hooked up? We have to pay for another year of our current provider on Dec. 1 and needless to say we're hoping we'll have Truestream by then.
8:10AM November 15, 2018
Julie - we are getting anxious here. Dec. 1 we have to pay for another year of our current provider. Is there any chance we will get hooked before then?
10:54AM November 14, 2018
Hi John, thanks for your question! We are expecting to start in-home installations for your area in late December. We will be contacting you to schedule the in-home installation in a few weeks, in the meantime, if you have any questions, please let me know!
8:27AM November 14, 2018
just curious our house line is run and they tested the fiber last week. is there a estimated time for home install now?
3:10PM November 13, 2018
If only it were that easy Joe! I may ask for a magic wand from a certain jolly ole' elf in a red coat this December! Until my wand comes in though, keep spreading the word in your area, encouraging your friends, family, and neighbors to register their interest as well!
2:37PM November 13, 2018
Hi Kevin, Expect an email soon with more info!
2:11PM November 13, 2018
Ok now start in the southern part, Like the Wayland area (My Road) and meet in the middle Just a thought
9:24AM November 07, 2018
Hello! I live on Mitchell Rd about 5 miles east of downtown Petoskey, when will they be heading this way to start the home installations?? we already have the fiber lines connected to the power poles outside
1:13PM November 06, 2018
Hi Andrea, thank you for your feedback on our pricing. We feel for the unbeatable download AND upload speeds we offer, not to mention the excellent customer service, we are competitively priced. We do offer a bundle discount if you select internet and phone as well. If you have any questions, please let me know!
8:50AM November 06, 2018
Hi Annette and Michael, we will likely start branching off our main lines into the two areas with the most demand, in the summer of 2019. So far it looks like that will be Petoskey East and Hayes, where you folks are located! We will see what this winter brings for weather and installations, but if that schedule changes we will let you know!
8:44AM November 06, 2018
Pricing needs to be more competitive with existing internet providers. As is your bundle package doesn’t beat what I’m paying for services and people will not go thru the hassle to switch if there’s not an incentive. Myself included!
5:15PM November 05, 2018
I am on Brubaker Rd just east of Petoskey. When will I likely be hooked up? Michael Willson
10:38PM November 02, 2018
I am so excited that you hooked up your first customers! !! I am in Hayes township. I cannot wait for service here!!!! Are we still looking at summer 2019 or are we even sooner?
9:00AM November 02, 2018
Hi Marty, we haven't forgotten you, don't worry! We are installing the conduit as time allows with construction and the weather. We will have to submit a Miss Dig before we can put the conduit in, so when you see those flags at your house, you know we are close!
8:47AM November 02, 2018
Hi Charles, we are planning on having a seasonal plan, the final details are being firmed up and more information will be released this winter. Even as a seasonal member, keep in mind all the possibilities unlimited access to high-speed internet year round could provide -smart home technology doesn't have to be just for your full-time residence anymore!
10:22PM November 01, 2018
Hi Julie, What area is currently having conduit put in for the A2 customers? I don't see any details listed under my order tab, although a few weeks ago I signed the release for conduit. Please check to be sure I didn't get bumped off the waiting list. Thank you. Marty
2:38PM October 31, 2018
Hi Julie -- We're interested in the tech capacity that TrueStream will allow, but are wondering about rate structure for seasonal residents. Our current provider supports a special rate for "seasonal residents" that surely helps with affordability. Will TrueStream allow for anything similar? Or will we be able to put service on "hiatus" status, at least, for months that we may not be in the neighborhood? Thanks for your assistance.
10:15AM October 30, 2018
Jessica, standard depth for the conduit install is 24". We're getting close!
10:14AM October 30, 2018
Hi Barbara, good to hear from you, keep up the good work!
11:41AM October 29, 2018
How deep is the conduit buried?
1:12PM October 27, 2018

Just tapped 6 in my neighborhood....see how it goes for now...take care people!

18% to my goal, catching up on so many fronts. Election time, winter prep here, garden finished, leaves done, and seeing some people today waiting for the hook ups! So excited for them...I said some will have Christmas install presents...THEY ARE DOING IT NOW! TRUE STREAM keeps with its scheduled work. I see I have registered twice...oops...maybe they will wire me from front to back and also side to side? lol joking.......Got to find some more people today...to get my numbers moving. raini-sh today so I might have more time....thinking on who might not be signed in..check those records today too. To reach 10 K work to do...
3:43PM October 19, 2018
Hi Darryl, thank you for your interest in Truestream! Green is just the color distinction for your area, which is West Traverse. If you were a Petoskey A1 or A2, your area would show as such when you registered. As far as construction, we plan on installing the A1 and A2's starting later this month and going through the spring, then we will branch off our main lines into the other areas. Demand will help us determine which area(s) we go to first, so keep spreading the word to all your friends and neighbors encouraging them to register their interest, lets see if you can help increase the demand in West Traverse!
10:49AM October 19, 2018
SQUEEEE!!! Just signed my initial contract for service. Supposedly I'm 20-30 days away from actual installation. Download party at my house next month! :D
8:45AM October 19, 2018
Hi Julie! I am at 3340 S Lake Shore Dr, Harbor Springs in West Traverse area. This area shoes up as green on your area map. What's the color green mean? Am I in A1 or A2 area? And any idea when I might get connected? Thanks!
10:25AM October 17, 2018
Hi Peter, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We have each individual area designed with the goal of having about 600 subscribers. Each of those areas have varying internet access, a lot of people are telling us they have no internet options (the horror)! We want to go where we are wanted, so demand is helping us determine where to build, once we branch out from our main lines that connect our electric substations. If someone is unhappy with their internet access (or lack of access!) they will jump at the chance to register their interest, and spread the word to their friends and neighbors, therefore creating a higher demand for that area. If you have any questions, please let me know!
10:12AM October 17, 2018
Hi Robert, it looks like your service was cancelled, so I went ahead and reinstated it. You should see it listed on your dashboard again. If not, please let me know!
9:51AM October 17, 2018
It would be nice if areas that were only served by satellite (or on a wait list for DSL to free up) could get priority. I notice some of the places that are signed up already have options like Charter....I understand you have to do what’s best, just saying it would be nice. I am looking forward to being able to update my website, send client attachments and stream video again... !
8:47AM October 17, 2018
Hi Julie, I do have another question. I am not sure what I am doing wrong but when I go into "My Dashboard" I no longer see my order there but instead see "Sign up for this campaign" which makes me nervous that my order has been lost. But another time I saw that and put in another order and then I had two orders listed so I cancelled one of them. I am finding this whole website a little wonky. How can I be sure my order is still there?
11:32AM October 16, 2018
Hi Robert! We are still on track to start installations for our Petoskey A1 folks starting in November. Those installations will then continue through the winter. You will be hearing from us shortly to confirm you are still interested, and let you know the next steps. If you have any questions in the meantime, please let me know!

whew the weather is changing fast! Got some"stuff" out of the way, now to get busy here. I looked up my quota thought and it was 10,000 before Christmas....a BREEZE TO HOME PLATE! Come on Antrim County, we are Boyne section. Let's get us back on the track....10K before Christmas? Excited to put us on the map? Today some hail, rain, leaves dropping like flies...however there is plenty of dig time ahead. Dreams can be real, and some dream of a hook up by Christmas...for some yes. Rome ya know the story...not built in a day! I am not discouraged at all, excited for those having it happen right now, excited about who will be next and excited for them also...We all are having something very new for up here in the North...no baby is born without needing 9 months....some pop early and God knows we want the baby healthy, so goes this Fiber Power, no short cuts, nothing incomplete, it takes challenges and time...we have it..we have had it for a long time. When the time gets close we always yearn for a short cut....quicker, that is human...but this takes time...all are treated fairly and honest answers can haunt you...never fear it is near....it is ours..relax, watch progress happen.....encourage you? YOU???? heck you come encourage others, we can make it a song? We can do anything if we try and want enough....I want enough of Boyne to come let's get at it again ok?
9:24PM October 15, 2018
Julie, We are in the A-1 area. Any estimate of when we might get service? We have lines strung past our house with coils of slack service. How long do you estimate it will take to hook up everyone in A-1? I have not received an email completing our order yet - does that mean that connection is not imminent for us?
11:28AM October 15, 2018
Hi Tom and Gary, to answer both of your questions, I cannot tell you an exact date services will be installed up your way. We are starting in-home installations VERY soon for some lucky folks along our main fiber lines. Those installations will continue through the winter and into the spring. Summer is when we are planning on branching out into the other areas, and we will do that by demand. So far, it looks like the Petoskey East and Hayes areas want us the most. Overall, the Petoskey area build is expected to take 2-3 years. Spread the word to all your friends and neighbors and encourage them to register their interest, lets see if you can help build up the demand for your area to get service faster!
11:16AM October 15, 2018
When do you expect your Cross Village zone to have service available. many of us are being asked to sign contracts with other satellite and/ or tower to tower wifi services. I do not want to enter into a multi year contract with another provider if your service is eminent with in the coming year.
5:39PM October 14, 2018
We, as well as quite a few others, have a cottage on Lamkin Road near GoodHart. Do you know if the fiber optic cable will be available to us and when?
1:15PM October 12, 2018
Hi Sandra, thank you for your interest in Truestream! Right now, we are only bringing our high-speed fiber internet to our members of Great Lakes Energy, and no, you can't just choose who your provider is. Once we are established and providing services to our members, we may look at expanding into areas outside our electrical territory. If you have any questions, please let me know!
8:22AM October 12, 2018
I live in town in Boyne City, less than a mile from GLE headquarters. When will you be installing on E. Lincoln St.? Also, I've been a GLE customer for many years in the past at prior addresses, but electricity for this address is serviced by Consumer's. I don't have any choice over that, do I?
9:20PM October 08, 2018
Welcome to the Truestream team Gail! We are currently working in our Petoskey service area, but we plan on expanding, beginning that construction phase in 2020. Demand will help us determine where to go next, so be sure to spread the word to your friends, family and neighbors and encourage them to register their interest as well! Be sure to check back here for updates, as well as our Facebook page! If you have any questions, please let me know!
12:00PM October 08, 2018
We are extremely interested in having fiber options in the Scottville area. At this time we receive internet and mobile phone service through Verizon. Our TV comes through Dish Network/Satellite. this results in charges for TV, Phone and internet which is getting very
10:21AM October 08, 2018
Hi Curtis! Yes, the residential voice option is a home phone service. If you have any other questions, please let me know!
2:48PM October 05, 2018
Curtis E Regentin
Does residential voice service mean that you can only make calls from your residence and not make calls from elsewhere? Is your voice service more like a land line?

Hi Valeri, thank you for your interest in Truestream! I assure you, this is a very real project! We are on schedule to start connecting some very lucky subscribers located on off of our main fiber lines in November! As far as the Hayes area, no, it does not need to be at 100% before we will start construction, we are using that more as a gauge of demand - and Hayes currently sits in second place for demand. Ideally, we will begin branching off of our main lines into the two highest demand areas in the summer of 2019. It isn't an exact time frame, but hopefully it will help you make a more informed decision. If you have any questions, please let me know!
9:54AM October 04, 2018
How soon will we know if this will actually be a reality? If I don't know something soon I will have to upgrade my Direct TV since the equipment is in desperate need of an upgrade. This usually requires a commitment from Direct TV. I live in Hayes township and we are at 67%. Does it need to reach 100% for you to start this project? Will it be at least another year from now?
10:10AM October 01, 2018
Hi Tim, it looks like our Wayland office is probably closest to you, the address is 1049 133rd Ave, Wayland. They are open 7:30am-4pm. Please let me know if you need anything else!
10:52AM September 29, 2018
Julie, I do. I am in the Allegan area. Thank you, Tim
12:06PM September 28, 2018
Hi Tim, our Champions kit, that include printed materials (and more!) is available for pick up at any of our Great Lakes Energy locations. If you need the address of our closest office to you, please let me know!
11:25AM September 28, 2018
Julie, Would it be possible to have those printed materials sent out to me so I can distribute in my area? Thank you, Tim
3:06PM September 27, 2018
Hi Robert! We have tried to inform all of our Great Lakes Energy members, both in print and electronically. Several announcements have appeared in our monthly magazine, as bill inserts, in our monthly newsletter, in our e-newsletters, on our website, and on social media. Specifically in Emmet Co. where construction has begun we have sent postcards to all our members announcing the new service and encouraging them to register online or by calling us if they have limited internet. We also welcome grassroots efforts! Feel free to mention the services to your neighbors when you see them! You can also sign up to be a Champion for your area, receive some printed and promotional materials from us, and help spread the word to all your friends, family and neighbors that! We welcome any additional suggestions as well, thank you!
2:05PM September 27, 2018
Julie, Thank you for answering me earlier. I’m a Hughesnet sufferer and I’m beyond frustrated with the “service”. I have a question about your surveying for new customers. A number of my neighbors have no internet at all but might be interested in getting it through GLE. I’m wondering how you find out about them if they aren’t online already. Plenty of folks still don’t know or don’t know much about the fiber optic service being offered.
9:08AM September 27, 2018
Hi Marty, we are currently working with the MPSC on details of the Lifeline program, so we don't have a lot to share on that yet. As far as A2's getting fiber before the end of the year...we plan on getting some conduit installed for the members before the ground freezes...but still to be determined if we will be able to run fiber to the A2's yet this year. Stay tuned!
9:00AM September 27, 2018
Hi Shawn, those big coils looped on some of the poles are called slack storage, and with a few exceptions, so far they are only along our main fiber line. If someone is within about 1500 ft. of that and they are not registered as an A1 or A2, have them email us and we can verify their location!
8:41AM September 27, 2018
Hi Julie, Are there areas where A2 customers are likely to get service before the end of the year? If so where? Thank you.
8:39AM September 27, 2018
Hi Julie, will true stream be participating in the Michigan Lifeline program to help our seniors with connectivity? https://www.michigan.gov/mpsc/0,4639,7-159-16400_17280-402839--,00.html
7:59PM September 26, 2018
I assumed it was the big coils of fiber hanging on poles all over, but there are some coils next to houses I know are not in the A1/A2 area. No big deal, it really was just curiosity. :D
3:46PM September 26, 2018
Hi Shawn, why yes, we do have a map of the exact location of the main line path that connects all of our substations. Unfortunately for you (and me!), our engineering department keeps that under lock and key. The best I can say is take a drive and look around.
2:32PM September 26, 2018
Is there a map of the main line path? I'm in A1, which is beyond awesome, but out of pure, morbid curiosity, I'm curious where the line itself goes.
12:05PM September 25, 2018
Hi Robert, I apologize your questions were not being addressed, let me do my best to help out. We plan on offering a seasonal plan, but what that will exactly look like is still in the works. We will have more details on that this winter. As far as installing the fiber lines overhead or underground, our plan is to follow the same path as the electric lines. If your electric is underground, your fiber line will be as well. If you have any additional questions, please let me know!
11:56AM September 25, 2018
I still have questions which no one seems interested in addressing so far. I’ll try again. Can the service be suspended for a period of time such as 4-5 months when no one is using it? And can the fiber optic line running from the power line pole be buried? My power and old phone lines are both buried and I would not want an overhead line.
3:59PM September 24, 2018
Brian, thanks for your enthusiasm! We are getting so close, it is really an exciting time for us and all of our Petoskey area Truestreamers!
3:53PM September 24, 2018
Hi John, we don't have anyone connected quite yet, we are planning our first installs for October (ahh...right around the corner!). Our plan is for the crew to come in and connect the house off of the main line. Once that is complete, we call to set up the in-home installation. Just like that - the high-speed fiber internet you deserve is at your fingertips!
2:51PM September 24, 2018
I live on Intertown rd, and I see you guys installing 100-300 feet down the road!! I’m so excited to have internet for the first time in 3 years and I’m so not paying the 5-7K install fees from charter!
12:15PM September 24, 2018
just wondering if anyone has been connected yet and if so how long did it take after they had the main line ran?
12:07PM September 24, 2018
Ellen, we are getting close! We are excited to be able to provide such a needed service to so many who are lacking options!
12:00PM September 24, 2018
Dakota, we plan on on completing the Petoskey service area in 3 years. Demand will help us determine where to build next, and Pellston North and South are right in the middle as far as demand, so far. Spread the word to all your friends and neighbors, encourage them to register their interest, and see if we can get more demand in your area!
11:55AM September 24, 2018
Anthony, we have been out working near that area. Send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will verify your location for you!
10:27PM September 23, 2018
I'm in Petoskey East and excited to see that this area is 67% towards completion. Living on Sheaffers Crossing (Antler Hill assoc) there are only 4 or 5 full time homes and no one wants to provide service. No hot spots with Verizon or AT&T, Viasat/Excede is horrible service and outrageous in cost. Hughsnet is the same. Cant get a landline, even though my home had one once upon a time. So, as soon as you want to have access to the easement that runs thru my property....have at it.
3:33PM September 21, 2018
So chances are that the pellston area wont be added for at least another 4 years?
8:07AM September 20, 2018
There has been construction going on along the sides of N Conway rd in Oden / Conway, digging down into the shoulders, and it appears that they are laying corrugated conduit. I don't think my area is A1 or A2 but is it possible that they are prepping to lay fiber through that area?
4:25PM September 17, 2018
Barbara, as you know, going out and talking to people, they think it is too good to be true! As we draw closer to in-home installations, I think we will see a whole new wave of interest. We aren't full of empty promises of 'someday', we are making it happen!
4:14PM September 17, 2018
Lynn, we'll get there! Keep spreading the word and get your friends and neighbors to register their interest! Spring of 2019 is when we plan to start branching off of the main lines into the other areas, and we want to go to where we are wanted, so demand (registrations) will play a factor!
3:40PM September 17, 2018
Hi Jim, did you know for every negative piece of news you need to hear three positives to counter act it? Jim, I like your name, it's very distinguished. That shirt you are wearing looks very nice on you. You are really excited about Truestream, and we love that about you! Silver Creek will likely be 2019 sometime...so close, yet 2019 seems so far away...we'll get there though!
8:44AM September 17, 2018

funny, how one person sees a white truestream truck in the immediate area where they live, and they are going ballistic! Goes to show people hear but do not comprehend it is real even yet. BUT...IT IS!!! Those trucks are wide open view and men jump out and people with more kinds of stuff pop out and they get it!!! "IT" is here! Now....yup Petoskey knows the feeling....I love it...makes me know I am right, people are not listening because up to now, it has been babble...go down state and it all happens as a daily event, up here it is kind of futuristic isn't it? We are seeing roads being fixed now finally and are we mad at the inconvenience? NEVER! WE ARE GETTING ROADS WITH MARKINGS, NO HOLES, WE CAN GO TO CHARLEVOIX, GAYLORD EVERYWHERE...WE ARE JUST LIKE DOWN STATE, WE HAVE CHOICES IN MORE THINGS. WHAT ROAD WILL I TAKE NEXT TO SEE THE CHANGES....? I TOOK AN AFTERNOON TO JUST DRIVE AND LOOK, CHANGE IS UPON NORTHERN MICHIGAN. THANKS TO ALL YOU DOING THE WORK...still think 10,000 will be supporters before or by Christmas!
11:16AM September 16, 2018
PLEASE TAKE YOUR FIBER ALL THE WAY UP LARKS LAKE ROAD to LEVERING ROAD. Our address is Pellston but we are 12 miles from downtown Pellston and five minutes from Cross Village in a horrible hole that no one ever wants to service. It took 45 days to get a phone when we moved out here because all phone companies said they did not service this area. I love being rural but PLEEEEAAAASE!!!! Former HughesNet customer suffering with present VIASAT SATELLITE internet.
10:41AM September 14, 2018
Will service be provided to the Silver Creek subdivision yet this year?
3:38PM September 13, 2018
HI Jessica, the main route our fiber lines are taking is located in part of all the areas listed, so yes, we have a section in the Petoskey East area. If you have any questions, let me know!
3:37PM September 13, 2018
Hey Jason, we are still on track to start installations for the Petoskey A1 folks starting in November, Petoskey A2 will follow, then we branch out into the areas, probably starting in the summer!
6:31AM September 13, 2018
Is Petoskey east area part of the backbone!!?!
2:54PM September 12, 2018
Just curious I see in the petoskey east area alot of trucks near silver creek road. any timeframe for that area?
9:10AM September 11, 2018
Shawn, we are still on track for starting installations in November for the Petoskey A1's. They do seem a little slow in registering though right? We have some more marketing plans in the works for them, but in the meantime, the progress bar just helps us know where the demand is, primarily outside the A1 and A2 areas.
2:46PM September 10, 2018
Just curious if the Petoskey_A1 areas are still expecting in-house connectivity in November? It seems too good to be true, and the progress percentage is disheartening as October is just around the corner...
9:40AM September 05, 2018
Hi Tim, thanks for your question! As Great Lakes Energy, we serve about 15,000 members in the Petoskey service district. Our studies have shown we should be able to sign up about 40% of those members for Truestream (about 6,000 people). Excluding the A1 and A2 areas that are in construction, we have 10 areas, with a goal of 600 sign ups per area - that is where the % comes from, and no, they don't have to reach 100% before we start building. That is just a guide to show what area has the highest demand. If you have any more questions, let me know!
9:38AM September 05, 2018
Hi Mike, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We will be in our Petoskey service area 2-3 years. That being said, our plan is about a year from now, we assess how it is going in the Petoskey area and start looking into where we may want to build next. Construction in that next area could then begin in 2020. Part of determining that next area to go to will be demand, so be sure to encourage your friends and neighbors to register their interest as well!
3:56PM September 04, 2018
Julie, Out of curiosity, how was the "goal" calculated under the business plan deployment of the Truestream fiber service? Meaning, if area X has 1000 customers and the bar graph indicates 10% to goal, does that mean 100 of the 1000 customers have signed up for it? And, does each area have to hit the 100% mark before construction will begin in that area? Just asking because the reality will be a very rare circumstance that any one area will attain 100%. Thank you.
4:30PM September 02, 2018
I am in the Kalkaska region, and do you have a rough idea when service will be in my area? I don't want to get in a contract with satellite service, and my Verizon cell internet is up in a year.

sorry for the error. Excited to see how the numbers of Supporters will change in the month of October. Thanks for all the help. Fantastic staff we have! .

I hope you all are well after a terrible storm outage! Just in case my message misses target. Julie and Sharie, C.-- we do NOT need the discussed materials I met yesterday with all 3 individuals, things are set, In hand materials were suffice. I had a copy of the page we talked about, I am assured it is all they need, with a new printer now in house, it will print it to a little over 1,000 homes the end of OCTOBER -INCLUDING "OUR PAGE!" THEY TOO SEE HOW IT CAN HELP THE LIVES OF SENIORS IN THIS COUNTY TO BE INCLUDED IN THE BIG PICTURE OF LIVES CHANGING DAY BY DAY. eXCITED TO SEE HOW OUR NUMB

Hi Thomas, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! I will verify your address location and email you what I find out! If you have any questions, please let me know, thanks!
3:01PM August 29, 2018
When we signed up with truestream a few weeks ago, we were placed in the Cross Village area based on our address. However, we are located directly on M-119, just north of Good Hart, and in recent days workers with equipment bearing the truestream logo have been working in the electric right-of-way that runs through our property. Is it a certainty that we aren't actually in your core group? (I'm hesitant to post my actual address on a public message board, but I imagine you can get it through from your database, if necessary.) Thank you.
10:13AM August 28, 2018
Hi Joshua, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! Our plan is to bring high-speed fiber internet to all of our Great Lakes Energy members. Right now they are working in the Petoskey service area, but in about a year we will be looking for our next area to start building. Demand will help us determine where to start building next, so spread the word to all your friends, family and neighbors and encourage them to register their interest as well!
8:36AM August 28, 2018
Bring service to Kalkaska group more specifically Lakes of the North / Wilderness Valley, horrible DSL service is all we have!
5:58PM August 24, 2018
Hi Bob, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! Once we get closer to actual installations, we will be contacting everyone that has registered in that area, and verify they are still interested in service, discuss which plan might be best for their lifestyle, and schedule the in-home installation. If you have any questions in the meantime, please let us know!
2:28PM August 24, 2018
Hi Al, It sounds like your community wide meeting was a big success for Truestream! Thank you for being such an awesome Champion! If you need any more marketing materials, stop by the Boyne City office and I will get you more.
8:44AM August 24, 2018
We have seen workers in our area installing fiber. If we have registered, will we receive an e-mail when the service is available, or ideally in advance of when the service is available, so that we can sign up? Thanks very much-- Bob
6:49PM August 23, 2018
We just had a Lake Louise (Thumb Lake - Hudson Township in Charlevoix) community wide meeting last night and there were 80-90 people in attendance one of the biggest ever. I distributed printed materials from the Champions meeting and gave a presentation, sharing the information we had been given. The interest was overwhelming. Everyone in the lake community is MORE THAN EXCITED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF FIBER INTERNET (and getting rid of DSL or Satellite). Based on what I heard, it can't come soon enough. My wife and I wore the T-shirts to the meeting and everyone was calling them the billboards. thanks for providing the marketing materials - I was able to encourage everyone to sign up and register on the TrueStream site and to pass on the information to neighbors who were not present at the meeting.
2:19PM August 23, 2018
Hi Annie! The Wayland Area is at 6%. We will be up in the Petoskey Area for a while, but keep spreading the word and encouraging people to register! If you have any questions, please let me know.

When someone told me about jointruestream.com. I was blown away happy. Then I began to invite my friends- like the old story, tell someone a secret and next thing you know...the world knows the secret. Well jointruestream.com is no secret!, I can see the spools of Fiber optical, the white trucks in neighborhoods!. To be able to reach out with new smart phones and reach libraries of books etc. from home and so many other ways of using this wonderful tool here at home. I remember when I learned "upload and download" from a family member...Who know that that little line could blaze through in a zip! Technology will take us to space far beyond our dreams can imagine...In school we learned about the blazing trails to the "new Alaska: The Last Frontier . I remember laying on the floor as a child reading the weekly reports of those brave souls that loaded up and headed for Alaska! I just wanted to go right now. One day our kids will look at our youth and ask, "How did you guys survive? Kerosene lamps? for real? Typewriters with no plug ins? No dishwasher? Just think of all you do today and ask your self this question. I told I am sure more than 150 people just me, myself and I. Have you shared your knowledge? Have you taken a minute to go to jointruestream.com and signed yourself in as a 'CHAMPION? How will GLE know you care if you do not do so? Mindead? Plea take an in and let them count your household as someone wanting the newest way to communicate as soon as possible....I believe if you look at the site and all the things to check out beside options...remember, they bring and install it free of charge! you chose the options best suited for your household....tell all you know and live by, change your neighborhood, your town, our living space...we can, notice the numbers? moving closer to 5,000. now. You help and watch the numbers....thanks. Remember if you need help the comment section will help you too.
4:07PM August 21, 2018
Any update on where the Wayland area is in % to goal? We sure could use this service out here!!!!
10:13AM August 21, 2018
Hi Martin, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! If you have any questions, please let me know.
9:58AM August 21, 2018
Hi Al, After seeing the enthusiasm at the Champion meeting, we are looking into some options for each area to be able to connect with others in their area. We will keep you posted when we come up with a solution!
9:14AM August 21, 2018
Hi Michael, Thanks for coming to the kick-off event! I was toward the back of the room and didn't hear all of the questions, but here are my thoughts - if demand plays a big part in determining construction, everyone who is unhappy with their current service options (or lack of options) will sign up, and sign up quick, driving up the demand in that area. We aren't planning on specifically including (or excluding) someone based on their current available internet options, if a Great Lakes Energy member wants Truestream, we want to provide it to them! If you have any questions, please let me know.
9:14PM August 19, 2018
Hi Julie, thanks for your follow-up. I just looked and found the dropdown you mentioned, I had missed that before. I addition to sorting it by area, it would be good if the supporters list could be also sorted alphabetically so it would make it easier to scroll down and look at names and skip the "anonymous" supporters. I understand that you can search by individual name, but that is clunky and time consuming. A simple alpha listing by area would make it easier for champions. Thanks for considering. We have a Lake Louise (Thumb Lake) Community Wide meeting this coming Weds and I am on the agenda to build more interest on truestream.

Seems the internet express is coming to town. Some will be fooled by anything that moves. I personally will keep on working and asking people to join. I want to see GLEjointruestream become the giant here...If it can carry our electrical works and keep on going, good enough for me to want. Plus I just am sick of all the yak about hi speed etc...ya see little signs popping up here and there...but when they take the signs down, who will you call for the problem....I for one say. joinTruestream, they have not just fast speed, but Fiber optic lines and we know where to find them everyday...Must be some got a bit of a scare when join truestream said ok, family, we are ready now to take the next step. We have invested in you and you us...We will be here and we are coming as fast as we can with something not seen up Northern Michigan...we know what towers do in hills and bellies...NOTHING...so let's just continue to call others, cool our jets. and pray we are right....one day we get our break....our turn, I will not throw in my hand no sir! let's hear some new names here .... we are not building the last few days.... got to get on it guys, and me too! Julie I will give a holler to ya when I get to the Boyne doors ok?
5:50PM August 17, 2018
I attended the meeting last nigh. Thank for a great meeting! One thing struck me a little odd. A question was asked if Great Lakes would focus on those, like me, that do not have any form of wired (Carter Perish)internet first. It was said that Great Lakes management did not think that these areas would be more interested then those who already had a form of wired internet. But yet when the group was asked "how many have data caps" well over half raised there hands. This seems to indicate to me a large interest of those who do not have wired internet. I hope that Great Lakes will look at this a little closer.
4:19PM August 17, 2018
Hi Al, thanks for attending our event last night, we sure had a good time meeting everyone! We are brainstorming ways to get Champions (or anyone who is just really excited about Truestream!) to be able to connect easier, but in the meantime, you can filter supporters by area. When you click on the Supporters tab, it says Check out who's already registered! at the top, just below that, there is a drop down to filter by area. You should be able to select Boyne from there. If that isn't working for you, please let me know! Have a great weekend!
4:13PM August 17, 2018
Barbara, you missed a good time, but you are more than welcome to come to our Boyne City office M-F 8am-4:30pm!
12:16PM August 17, 2018
Julie, I attended the Champions Mtg at Nubs Nob last night. That was very helpful. What also would be helpful is if we could sort the 4,378 supporters by area. I just tried a very time consuming process of scrolling down a few at a time (on my very slow current internet) to see if I recognized some of the names in the Boyne Area (where I am) and finally quit after looking a lots of names from other areas that didn't mean anything to me as a Boyne Area Champion. Unfortunately, there are also a lot of anonymous supporters so it would be great if I could click on the "supporters link" and filter out by area and alphabetically by name, excluding the anonymous supporters.

working on my "plans", few more contacts today, but the group activities are pressing the same dates to a point...I plan to talk to Seniors this new week, got the Vets group going forward now. Back to the twp. next meeting and a few things here. Gave you a point to consider with me for tonight...Serious consideration....re: heading up to Nubs Nob. Thinking pick up my materials in the daylight at Boyne instead?

Hi James, thanks for your interest in Truestream! I am putting the info out here, in case anyone else has the same questions, but I will email you as well. Our in-home installers will make sure all your existing devices are connected before they leave. We are not offering television, so how you choose to bring cable/local channels into your home is up to you. Since everyone has their own preferences, we aren't planning on recommending any one product or service for television. As far as equipment to buy to bring the high speed fiber-internet into your home, we will provide a router with built in WiFi. If you are asking about television equipment, again, that would be up to you to decide what works best for you. For home phone service, we offer a $5 a month discount when bundled with an internet plan, but we have no plans on further reducing that at this time. If you have any additional questions at this time, please let me know!
3:24PM August 14, 2018
Will you provide information on how to use your broadband for local and network TV channels? Will you advise as to what types of equipment to purchase? Will you reduce your monthly phone charge to be more competitive with Spectrum phone service? Phone service currently costs me $19.99 on Spectrum / Charter. Please send your responses to my email address. Thank you.
8:13AM August 13, 2018
Hi Robert-our plan is to follow the path of the electric lines-if they go overhead, so does the fiber. If they go underground, so does the fiber, that includes the service right up to your house. As far as suspending service, we are working on a plan for our seasonal members, so keep an eye our for that later this year!
9:42AM August 12, 2018
Anyone know if they are willing to bury the cable to the house? And if service can be suspended for a few months at a time?
12:46PM August 11, 2018
I have underground electric service from the road to my house. The fiber optic would also need to be underground. Anyone know if that’s going to be an issue or not?
7:21PM August 10, 2018
They are pretty impressive in their 6 ft. glory aren't they Jeff? It looks like you are in the Petoskey East zone, so they are not going all the way down Pickerel Lake Rd. The locations they pass directly in front of are labeled Petoskey A1 or Petoskey A2. What you can do is keep spreading the word to your friends, family and neighbors, demand will help us determine where to build next! It looks like Petoskey East and Hayes are in a pretty tight race!
6:01PM August 10, 2018
Driving home today and saw one of the massive spools of fiber on pickerel lake road!! So excited and happy to see that. Can you comment on if they are going to go all the way down pickerel for the November service date?
4:04PM August 10, 2018
Barbara I am so happy to hear your meetings have gone well so far! We aren't quite ready to divide the Boyne area up yet, but we will eventually!

Hi Joshua, thank you for your interest! As of right now, we are in active construction in our Petoskey service area and you will notice that area is broken down further into 10 smaller areas. We want to start gauging interest in all our service areas though, because demand will help us determine where to start building next. IF the Boyne area as a whole shows a large demand, that may be the next area we start construction, and it would be broken down into smaller areas at that time. As far as the Champion Kit, you can pick that up at our Great Lakes Energy Boyne City office, or attend our first Champion Meeting at Nub's Nob next week. If you have any questions, please let me know!
3:42PM August 10, 2018
Hi Matthew! Our plan is to bring high-speed fiber internet to ALL of our Great Lakes Energy members, eventually, but that does take time. Register your interest now and spread the word to your friends, family and neighbors, demand will help us determine where to take construction next!

any chance Boyne will be soon divided into the smaller territories so we can be focused more on our area and growth %? Good day yesterday. Brought it to our Antrim County BOD. Some were not aware, some had signed on themselves, and some are not in GLE. But even the audience was asking again "what is the address?" Good news on that front. Also went to Antrim Vets to ask how we can help Vets some elderly or needing things....they were excited to hear. One was already on his cp. signing in for himself....they, I assume can help those on GLE to know and sign in also. So on I go...up 2%! love it. Julie Bailey your materials were so helpful for my contacts.thanks until next round!

Hi Julie, I signed up to be a champion in the middle of the south side of the Boyne area. I haven't received anything yet, but I've already started going door to door sharing this web site to get people to register. What I'm wondering is why the Boyne area is so huge. Do we need a specific amount of people in the entire Boyne area, or just a specific number of people in any neighborhood in that area to guarantee service? What are those numbers? It seems like it should be broken into smaller sections. Another big thing to note is that Boyne Mountain is near me (about 10 miles away), and that's a WHOLE lot of subscribers, I imagine. I'm not sure if you take that into your calculations or not.
10:33PM August 09, 2018
Is there any chance you are considering service to Irons in your Scottville region? I am very satisfied with GLE electricity service, and very unsatisfied with Hugesnet internet.

Good day again, to hot to be with the wasps so here I am...Thinking of who and how to reach out to those we many times don't see. I am still sending messages to my friends, neighbors etc. and my twp meeting is tomorrow night. I am comfortable all is ready for that meeting. Woke up to early to get up thinking some more. Do you suppose if we think about the Elderly in own homes, maybe reach them thru a talk at Sr. Lunch programs? get to our Vet's Program and ask her as she interviews vets needing if that might be another contact point for some that really need the help this offers? Considered prior or new idea? Numbers are not changing much right now, do I see that correctly. It is about to change a lot I just know it. Julie "action plans" can't fail. Just looked and it seems Boyne is moving with many new Champions yes?
4:26PM August 03, 2018
Hi Dr. Zako - We have put the word out there, in Country Lines, a bill insert, on social media, and just recently, a postcard to everyone in the Petoskey service area. We will take all the help promoting Truestream we can get though! You can do simple things like sharing an email or Facebook post with friends and neighbors, or if you sign up to be a Champion, we will have information you can pass out as well. If you have any questions, please let me know!
4:15PM August 03, 2018
Thanks Barbara, keep spreading the word and having everyone register their interest!

I live at Birchwood Farms Golf & Country Club, in West Traverse Township, 4 miles northwest of Harbor Springs. There are approximately 400-500 homeowners here. Once they learn of this alternative to Spectrum/Charter, I suspect that they will become as enthusiastic as I am about the Truestream alternative. How can Truestream help me get out the word?

pkg came yesterday now begins my count down. Yesterday I contacted with share to probably 75 neighbors and friends....I have my plan mapped out basically, and yes it is ambitious. No, I will not do it alone. You see 15 townships, 5 villages and 9 Districts are involved in this move...yes, we are a zoned Twp. I got my Supervisor interested, he said game on, today I see his name...we have this on the next agenda to bring on the Board if it is their will. Next my "Districts", are all elected officials of my county...they can be interested in fact one hit a return and thanked me for telling her about this! is she listed? no- perhaps she is one of the anonymous. One other is registered as a CHAMPION,that means A BIG thank you David. now the meeting in a few days...that will be big help...A past Commissioner is excited and she joined yesterday( excited news and she will be calling neighbors and family to tell them it is coming for real!, next the letter, what it will say is still cooking in my brain..But it will go to 29 Individuals in my plan. One big unifying meeting in the near future to put our county on the map! Then with letters and the help here, we will begin a mass move in this county. I think we might have a count that will interest others...I have to see... Hardly slept last night, but this is possible and i have to thank my champion Julie Bailey. I dare to be different, will it work, only you will tell me yes, when you become a CHAMPION too.
4:26PM August 01, 2018
Barbara, you should have some information to pass out at your township meeting delivered Friday. Thank you again for your interest!
1:50PM August 01, 2018
Megan, welcome to Michigan! We love our trees and beautiful rural setting, but the high-speed internet struggle is real! Thank you for registering your interest and spread the word to your friends and neighbors!
12:57PM August 01, 2018
Hi Kristine, thank you for your interest! Spread the word to all your neighbors, friends and family in your area and get them to register their interest! Demand will help us determine where construction will take place next. So far our Hayes area seems to want it the most, see if you can help change that!
12:51PM August 01, 2018
Hi James, we are working hard to bring the much needed high-speed fiber internet to as many people as soon as possible, but it does take time. Our plan is for the fiber lines to follow the same path as the electric lines, so overhead where it overhead, underground where it is underground with no installation costs.

Barbara j. Bradford
Picking up information here for presentation on 8-6th. Will look for mailed info as well. Hope this goes well. Different approach but excited to see what happens... I see me in the Champions...2 times...glad to be able to look down and find us all in the Boyne area. Lots of us working hard... Good thing to see by areas. now we can talk to another perhaps we know and keep moving forward.
8:42AM August 01, 2018
I live on Maple Grove road in Hayes township and HughesNet can’t service me because of all the trees. I desperately need internet to connect to the world (and look for work as a recent transplant to MI). I can’t wait for fiber to get here!!!
7:45PM July 31, 2018
Please work on the Levering Area ASAP. All of us out here have satellite or Century Link-which is like dial up speed. Cannot wait until this reaches our area, I know a lot of residents will be switching over. Just hoping we do not have to wait years until this happens. The other service areas have more options, like charter for their internet, we do not have that option.
2:00PM July 31, 2018
Hurry up, I changed over from seasonal to a full-time resident and I'm holding off on signing a contract for internet service but I can't wait until next year. Also my electric service is buried cable from a pole 800 feet away to my home, Truestream in going to do the same for free to bring me internet?
9:09AM July 31, 2018
Oh M C, we want the best of the best for our members, and you deserve no less, so that means fiber internet is the way to go! We also understand we have A LOT of seasonal locations in our service areas. Stay tuned, we are looking into offering some sort of a seasonal plan!
9:01AM July 31, 2018
Hi Bill! We won't force you to part with anything (except maybe your slow internet). If your router and equipment can handle up to 1 Gig, by all means, keep it! On our side though, we can't guarantee a whole lot of tech support or the quality of signal strength. If you have any other questions, let me know, thanks!
6:58PM July 30, 2018
Please consider a lower end package to compete with satellite, wimax, and other low speed providers (also offer a lower rate). A lot of cabin/cottage/part-time residents won't pay $60/mo, but would likely purchase a slower/cheaper plan. Has Great Lakes researched any new technology using their existing power lines (to avoid running fiber everywhere)? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadband_over_power_lines#Ultra-High-frequency_(%E2%89%A5100_MHz)
6:43PM July 30, 2018
Are there any routers currently available that would be compatible with your network? I have a home network which is extensive and the hub is an ASUS RT AC88U router which I would not like to part with.
10:50AM July 30, 2018
Jessica, we plan on providing the WiFi router with all installations, without a monthly rental fee. There may be an additional fee if you think you will need a WiFi booster though.
10:23AM July 30, 2018
Will the provided WiFi routers have a monthly rental fee?
9:04AM July 30, 2018
Hi Bill, thanks for your questions! Fiber optic lines are far superior to anything else out there, when we say 100 Mbps (or 200 Mbps or 1,000 Mbps!) we actually mean it! There is always the chance for a bit of a difference, but if it is ever more than 5-8 Mbps we would be shocked! As far as routers, we are taking the worry out of that as well! We will provide a WiFi enabled router we know can handle those speeds! Thank you for your interest and if you have any questions please let me know!
3:21PM July 28, 2018
My current ISP advertises internet speed of 100 Mbps but I actually get about 65 Mbps which does not surprise me because the signal is running over copper wires. Will your fiber optic speeds degrade like that too? After all, the fiber gets too my house but the signal is still going to be going over the network wires in my house, correct? What about compatible routers that can take advantage of the potentially higher speeds?
9:03AM July 27, 2018
Hi Ralph! From what I am hearing, our crews have been quite popular out your way! As a bit of a history nerd, the parallels between the early days of the electric co-op and now bringing fiber to our rural members is so interesting and exciting to me, we are truly making history!
5:45PM July 26, 2018
I just want to say thank god. We have been begging Charter for AGES to get out here and service our neighborhood. But their lines stop at Bills Farm Market out East Mitchell. I can see from my house where they stop. I saw the trucks out on the road this morning installing the fiber, stopped and talked to one of the guys installing it. Almost wanted to give him a hug haha. Very glad its coming.
10:13PM July 23, 2018
Hi Tim, by entering an address you are strictly showing your interest in bringing high-speed internet to your location, no obligation. We recommend not signing any long term contracts that would prevent you from getting Truestream when it does come to your area, but I would say your assessment for 'best case' about two years is accurate.
10:06PM July 23, 2018
Hi Melanie- If you have your electricity through Great Lakes Energy, we are here for you! From seasonal dirt roads to swamps, overhead and underground service, we are here to bring you the high-speed internet you need - and deserve!
11:07AM July 22, 2018
Julie, thank you for information. I am signed up as a champion and look forward to doing as much as I can to help with the process for our area. One bit of pushback that I am getting when talking to my neighbors is that they are currently in contracts with their ISPs. To my understanding about the process, if everything goes well, we are still realistically looking out at about 2 years for our area, correct? Reason I ask, is that I have been explaining that even if they are in a contract, by signing up now shows support for Truestream but at the same time does not mean they have to terminate their current contracts.
10:41AM July 21, 2018
Julie, thank you for the information. I am signed up as a champion for our area and look forward to do whatever I can to help the process. One of the topics that have come up is that some of the folks I talked to are currently in contracts with their current providers and they don't want to "commit" to signing up for Truestream. But if I am interpreting the information, it looks like best case scenario for our area would be about 2 years out, correct?
12:16AM July 21, 2018
Says I am in the zone so I registered. I live down a seasonal road and everything is underground. Can u comment on this?
12:13AM July 21, 2018
Says that I am
3:30PM July 20, 2018
Hi Sherry, we are so excited to be offering this service to so many people who need it! Spread the word and get your friends, family and neighbors to register their interest as well - demand will help us determine where we build next!
3:28PM July 20, 2018
Hi Tim! While I am no engineer, I have been reassured that we don't have to work from the top of the state down, connecting all areas along the way. This is why registering your interest and spreading the word to friends, family and neighbors is so important to us! We want to provide this service to people who we know want it. While some other factors may play a small part in determining where we build next, we know demand will be a major factor. Thank you for your interest!
12:38PM July 20, 2018
Hello! I too am from the Wayland area where I have limited choices. I currently use FreedomNet. I have been fairly happy with them, but there are a lot of slow times and they do not have the equipment to get me a faster connection where I live. I have subscribed to Sling and we occasionally get the "streaming" message even when no one else is on the wi-fi. I like the 3 packages with options for speeds and I like that upload/download is symmetrical! Thank you!
10:08AM July 20, 2018
We are so excited about the potential of fiber coming in to our area. Currently, we are very limited with what is available and the high cost of those services. One question I do have.....we are in the Wayland area which, by the map, is the furthest area south. What if we have enough support to go forward with the project but other connecting areas north of us do not, does that mean we won't be able to connect?
8:47AM July 20, 2018
Hi Al, we couldn't have said it better ourselves! This project brings a life-changing service to people who are in desperate need for that connection, and we are so excited to be able bring that service! Thank you for your interest, and be sure to spread the word to your Lake Louise family, friends and neighbors - demand will help us determine where construction will be next!
9:10PM July 19, 2018
I was so excited to see this that I actually ended up registering twice by accident. We are in great need of high speed internet at Lake Louise (Thumb Lake) in Boyne Falls. I previously high Century link DSL and was getting .28Mbps (yes, that is a decimal point in front of the 28). I switched to Hughes Net and we are currently paying more than your highest rate for 1000 Mbps and getting on average somewhere between 7Mbps and 15Mbps (and on rare occasions up to 25 Mbps) but are capped at 50 GB of data per month after which we are slowed down to crawl speed. While some may think that Lake Louise is only a summer community, there are a greater number of retirees like myself that live here full-time as well as owners that use their lake homes on a year round basis for 4 season activities. Most of them are used to high speed internet downstate and have more and more technology dependent on the the internet and wi-fi to monitor and control smart thermostats, cameras, security systems, etc. There are also more people working remotely when at the lake who would benefit from high speed internet. There are about 140 residences at the lake, three summer camps and a year round retreat center that would benefit from having high speed internet, since kids today (and adults) can't live without their smart phones. I signed up to be a champion and look forward to making this dream a reality. Keep up the good work, we are counting on you.
2:48PM July 17, 2018
Tim, great question! Installation will follow the same path as the electrical, if it is overhead, it will be overhead. If it is underground, it will be underground. And yes, all included in the installation! Thank you for your interest!
12:18PM July 17, 2018
I just thought of a question that others may also have. What if we have under ground electric service to our home? Will the the fiber also be trenched to our home if it comes to our area? Is this included in the installation?
8:42AM July 16, 2018
Hi John, thank you for your question. Upload and download speeds are symmetrical with fiber internet, which is just one of the many advantages over other providers! Thank you for your interest, if you have any other questions, let us know.
8:38AM July 16, 2018
Hi Ellen, thank you for your comments! We see a lot of parallels between bringing electricity to rural Michigan 80+ years ago (because the big guys wouldn't) and bringing high speed internet to rural Michigan now. It is a life changing event! Be sure to spread the word, and thank you for your interest!
4:29PM July 15, 2018
What are the upload speeds of these services. Are the symmetrical?
9:56PM July 14, 2018
Looking forward to actual wifi and not satillite. Frustrating when I see cable lines from Berger Rd/Mitchelle Rd heading east and down S. Ellsworth Rd, knowing they are not Truestream but another provider who has refused to come "up the hill" into Antler Hill Assoc because there are only 3 full time homes. Many of my coworkers who live rural Petoskey and are Great Lakes customers are all excited and ready to make the change. Because my unlimited data package is so bad, we are getting ready to cancel service. Why pay the amount we are paying and get nothing. Between that and horrible cellular service with Verizon....I am personally saying WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME and THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU from all of the unsatisfide Satillite internet customers.
10:45AM July 11, 2018
Welcome to the Truestream CHAMPION team Mark! For now, the best thing you can do is spread the word to all your friends and neighbors. We have some handy templates available for social media (don't forget to like our Facebook page yourself!)and email located under My Dashboard-Get Involved, Spread the Word. We also have packets of marketing materials in the works, so stay tuned!
9:49AM July 11, 2018
Please let me know what I can do as a champion! So looking forward to true high speed at home.
9:31PM July 10, 2018
Hi Jessica, interesting issue you have there...I will double check with the people responsible for the mapping. In the meantime, I see your service address with Great Lakes Energy does not have a N designation, so I would go without it for this as well.
8:08PM July 10, 2018
Julie, my zone/area differs based on how I enter my address (i.e., whether or not I include "N" for north). The map pin is in exactly the same place, though, for both versions of my address. How can I find out my correct zone?
5:00PM July 09, 2018
Holy cat biscuits Shawn, we are excited too! When we say this is truly life changing, we mean it, and we are honored to be part of it! In my semi-limited tech knowledge, I know the standard installations will include one piece of hardware, a router that will also include managed WiFi. Once we get closer to installations, we will have a more detailed update on the equipment itself. In the mean time, spread the word, and thank you for your interest and excitement!
4:39PM July 09, 2018
Hey Jim, we are glad you have you here for the summer months! At this time, a seasonal rate is something still under consideration, no final decisions have been made yet. I suggest checking here and social media for updates!
4:36PM July 09, 2018
Hi Jessica, as it currently stands, the areas are loosely based on our electrical substation that serves that area, not the township itself. I will find out if it is feasible to include townships lines or not at this point. Thanks for your interest!
2:58PM July 09, 2018
Holy cat biscuits! I can't express how exciting this is. I currently have fiber installed to my residence in Petoskey, which is CRAZY expensive. Who could imagine the connection at my farm in Brutus would be better and cheaper! Will there be updates about the specifics of the technology? (I'm curious about potential static IP addresses, which ports will be accessible from the outside, etc) I'd like to be able to work from an office at my farm instead of my current office, but need some specifics in order to make that work...
12:24PM July 09, 2018
Julie: Thank you!! I am looking forward to materials including any driveway signs that may be available. In the mean time, I am talking to all my friends and family!!!!
11:01AM July 09, 2018
Will there be options for seasonal adjustment to the service. We spend the winter elsewhere.
9:12AM July 09, 2018
Can you add township lines to the crowdfiber map?
8:58AM July 09, 2018
Hi Tim! You absolutely will have the ability to upgrade your service. When your area is ready to go, a rep will call to confirm your order and schedule the installation. At that time we are more than happy to discuss the plans and which one will be the right fit for your needs!
8:54AM July 09, 2018
Hi Annie and John, so glad you have joined with out other Champions! We will have some marketing materials ready for you soon, in the mean time, you can spread the word to your friends and neighbors from here using social media and email! Annie, part two of your question, we are looking for about 600 people in each of the areas that are set up for the Petoskey service district.
8:48AM July 09, 2018
Hi Ralph, great suggestion! We will get some information together that is more specific to the process as we get closer to setting up installations. Check back in the future for more updates!
8:43PM July 07, 2018
When I signed up, I was not sure between two product levels. I finally chose the 200mbps because it is way more than I currently have. However, I am not sure that I won't want to have the 1G service instead. When and if this great new service comes to my area, will I have a chance to upgrade my service if I want to?
12:44PM July 07, 2018
I'm signed up as a Champion and am looking forward to spreading the word!
4:29PM July 06, 2018
How many people do we need in each area to support service?
11:09AM July 06, 2018
Are pamphlets or photos available showing details of a completed residential installation? Google searches have information about the equipment needed to bring fiber optic service into homes, but it would be nice to know what equipment Truestream plans to provide when meeting a service request. Information to help prepare for the service may help homeowners make it easier for the installers and keep installation cost to a minimum. If some equipment will need to be provided by the homeowner, making wise decisions in the interim will save time and money.
11:17PM July 05, 2018
Help me spread the word in my area. Marketing material please & thank you! Annie
2:57PM July 05, 2018
Hi Douglas, welcome to the Champions team! We are in the process of getting promotional packages ready so you can help spread the word!
7:59AM July 05, 2018
Hi Jessica, we are excited you are excited! If you signed up to be a Champion, we are working on getting promotional packages out, those will include handouts for your friends and neighbors!
12:33PM July 04, 2018
Very excited to see high speed internet coming to my area, please keep me posted on when. I am signed up as a champion, let me know how I can help.
8:27PM July 03, 2018
How do I request flyers to give to my neighbors?
2:47PM July 03, 2018
Hi Ralph, the Petoskey A1 and A2 areas are not shown on the map, but they are the parts of each area listed that will be constructed first and can get service as soon as this year. Then we will branch from there. When you register your address, if you are in A1 or A2, you will receive a message telling you. Remember, that construction may be driven by demand so spread the word! Thank you for registering.
1:09PM July 03, 2018
Hi Tim, we are excited to be part of such a life changing event for so many people who truly need it. Thank you for registering your support, we look forward to working with you in the future!
9:20AM July 03, 2018
Where is Petoskey Area A1 and A2? This area is listed as under construction but there is nothing to indicate the boundaries now under construction.
8:55PM July 02, 2018
Very much looking forward to new possibilities for internet. Thank you
4:26PM July 02, 2018
Thanks so much, David. We are excited about the world of possibilities Truestream will offer to our members too. We appreciate you taking the time to register and comment. We hope you’ll encourage your neighbors to register too!
1:36PM July 02, 2018
Looking forward to this in the North Hesperia/Walkersville area!!
2:40PM June 20, 2018
Looking forward to this coming to my area.
