This is a second home for us, so we are not there all the time. When we were up last we saw the white flags, so we went ahead and put up some red flags to mark an electrical line that goes to the garage and the line from the propane tank. I just got an email, saying that we were left a goodie bag with flags to mark those lines. Will it be a problem or cause any confusion/delays because we did not use the ones that came in the goodie bag? We do not want any delays in the process.

We will bring the fiber from the gray house box into your home, and install and connect the router, which should be placed in a centrally located room. My current internet supplier gives a reduced rate if you sign up with a contract. Their minimum contract is for one-year. Very costly to get out of contract. Trying to spend my pennies as frugally as possible. With your current construction plans, would signing a contract for a year be the smart thing to do? Live on 215th in Big Rapids.

Julie Don’t take this personally because you can only reply with the information given to you by the project manager. Part of the Project Managers job is to provide meaningful updates to both project committee (GLE) and customers and although this site was a step in that direction you really cant get much of update here. One of the important parts of this project should be setting customers expectations which certainly isn’t being done and that is not your fault. Im going to share my timeline so that others can set their expectations somewhat at least. I think even when you read my timeline you will see how there are no real updates. People come here and share their disastrous internet stories and what they get in return isn’t even a real update. So here is my timeline. End of 2019 I am having internet problems myself and am trying to plan what to do next, I look at the truestream update for my area to find that they will begin my area in the spring of 2020(now spring of 2020 is a very big window but no problem) fast forward to march of 2020 and the update for my area is they will begin in spring of 2020. One would think as you get closer to spring with some effort on the part of the project manager you could narrow the window if they cared too. Anyway out of the blue a few weeks later a crew is running line down my street and I say finally its here. Wait not so fast as I find the next update to be fall of 2020 with nothing in between. August of 2020 comes around and the current update is you guessed it fall of 2020 ( I guess im having trouble excepting that nobody cares enough to give meaningful updates to the customers) then a couple weeks later a crew shows up to bury conduit and once again everyone vanishes. The best update I have received is when you said the home run crew is about 8 weeks behind the conduit crew. They haven’t shown up yet but where there is a project there is a problem so nothing is carved in stone. Based on something I read recently it sounds like the install crew might be another 3 months behind the home run crew, who really knows though because there are no real updates just generic ones. All in All people should expect another year or so after they start your area that you might be on the internet. That’s how it looks anyway. Again don’t take it personally as everyone knows you can only share the updates given to you. Hopefully you can see when you put the updates together they really aren’t updates at all. Everyone is excited about finally getting real internet so you can probably imagine how frustrating it is hearing generic updates with no real meaning.

Hi Kevin, thank you for your concern about our process. We would love to be able to tell everyone exactly when our service will be available in their area, or to their home. We live in the communities we serve too, we understand the lack of reliable, high-speed internet and the frustrations that brings. The reality is a construction project this large, covering multiple counties and thousands of residences and businesses, has multiple variables that can change frequently, so we speak in general terms. If our system was already built and mature, timelines for installation would be a different story. It is also important to note, with a project this large, we begin communications in a very broad sense of the entire service territory, Boyne for example. When construction is set to begin, we break that down further into phases, Boyne Phase 1, Boyne Phase 2 and Boyne Phase 3. We announced construction would begin in our Boyne Phase 1 area in the spring - which it did. At that point, we break it down further into smaller areas - Boyne City 1, Deer Lake 3, Advance 2, etc. and we adjust timelines further on our monthly construction update. Our crews are working hard to bring Truestream as quickly and safely to as many members as possible and we do send out location-specific updates over the course of the installation to your home, letting you know future steps in the process. I'm paying $113 a month on Frontier Internet with speeds of 8mbps, sometimes dropping to 1 throughout a day. Your service plan of $99 for 1000mbps up and down, is like a dream come true. Please, please, I've reached out to many people up and down my road, and also have 4 or 5 houses of family members living on this road, to which we own a large acreage farm, and they have all registered from what they have told me. Please save us from terrible, and non existent internet. I've looked into this issue for about 10 years now and it seems you and Starlink from Elon Musk are our only hope. Please begin construction soon, for the sake of the rural area on Baseline 2 and New Era 3 and help the farmers of this area connect to the wider world online! Hi Julie! 100% of my neighborhood signed up for Truestream. We were quite happy when the crews finally arrived to install the orange tube to each of our houses but that has been a month ago and so far no installation of the fiber itself has happened. Most of us currently use a wireless internet provider and unfortunately one of their transmitting radios has failed and the second is about to. Service drops completely every couple of minutes. They know Truestream is coming so they won't spend the money to fix the service issues. It's frustrating and we are kind of trapped and isolated here. Any update on the next step or better yet when roughly we can expect to get service up and running? Thanks, Doug

So far, our fiber drop crews (who bring the fiber line from the mainline to your home) are running about 6-8 weeks behind the conduit installation crews. Douglas, your area, the Advance 2 area still needs the network equipment installed to 'light up' the entire fiber network - which will be happening soon. Do you have an idea of when the electric account will be in your name, we will need that before we can move forward with the Truestream installation. You can also switch plans without incurring any additional cost, but you do need to be on a plan for one full billing cycle before you can change. Wi-Fi is generally slower than a hardwired connection, but when determining possible speeds, the device itself matter as well. My wife called customer service back on 8/20 because our installation has taken so long. She was told that the customer service person had talked to an installer and they would try to fit us in today. I was able to talk to the installer an hour ago and he said he had other appointments to get to and there's really nothing he could do. All of the problems started with Truestream losing our paperwork, to Wolf Construction skipping our conduit install and then 5 weeks later coming back and walking away because they said they had to go under the driveway but I showed them they didn't so they stayed and installed the conduit. Then after a quick week the fiber line was installed, but then after many calls that were routed to voicemail to schedule the in home install we were told it would be 10 weeks! So once again we were given lip service rather than someone stepping up to resolve the problems created by Truestream/Wolf.

Recently I had 3 gentlemen from your company working to get True Stream set up. I am writing to compliment their professionalism and how considerate they were installing the pipe and fiber. They made sure I understood what was going to happen and asked if I had any concerns. I had my driveway blocked off from other construction that was going on in the area and though they had to enter my driveway were considerate enough to put the blocks back up. When they were done they cleaned up everything and removed all of the other flags set for misdig. Thank you for providing such a great crew!!! I am excited to have True Stream!

I live on state Rd. in Harbor Springs, the Fiber was run up to my house about a month and a half ago, i even had the orange tube sticking out of the ground right next to my kitchen window. The orange tube was gone after about 3 days, and i never heard another word about finishing my installation. I did call the true stream number on July 6th to inquire about the finishing of my install, i was told they would call me back shortly but I never heard another word. i just called again today 7/24/2020 to inquire once again about finishing up my install. This time i was told that according to the install request for my address they were still waiting to run the fiber to my residence. I explained once again that the fiber was already run up to my house over a month and half ago and that there is very distinct trench line running through my driveway up to my house from where the fiber was laid. The person i spoke to then said again that they were waiting for the fiber to run to my place, and as soon as that happens they can finish my install which would be in another month or so. So i'm just looking for some clarification on my install and when i might actually have my service hooked up, because it sounds like some information is not being shared with the appropriate parties.

Hi Chris, thank you for your interest in Truestream. The construction-to-the-home for underground installations is a multi-step process. Calling MISS DIG and having the orange conduit is just the first step. It looks like that was done about a month ago at your location. There is a separate crew that will then come out to bring the actual fiber line from the mainline, through the conduit, and to the side of your house. At that time, they will install a gray box on the side of your house as well. It looks like that was done today. Once we verify that the fiber line is operational and working like we think it should, we will give you a call to schedule your in-home installation!

Hello, You guys have been working hard trying to give us truestream, and I am very excited for it. Our hotspot isn't cutting it anymore. We blow through our 30GB fast internet within 2 days, and it just drives us nuts. It looks like the majority of the construction phase has been finished in the Advance, Boyne City, and Deer Lake areas. I'm just wondering when the connecting phase will take place. I live in the advance 1 area. I've heard rumors that it'll be sometime in the fall or possibly winter. The sooner the better is what I like to hear, but no rush.

We are in the fielding process right now in the Hart service area and will move down to our Newaygo then Wayland service areas, finishing up in December. During the fielding phase, we collect data including type of residence, pole information, and other data related to infrastructure. This data helps us determine the feasibility of expanding Truestream, including mapping out infrastructure needs and how to get the fiber lines to members’ homes. Once we have that information, we will better be able to give ideas on timelines.

It has been three weeks since the underground conduit was installed. Since then, nothing. I had hope to have this all completed before the 7/9 because my Hughesnet will be cancelled then. It’s should have been cancelled last month on the 9th but after much wrangling on the phone I got an extra month. If Truestream doesn’t come through I’ll be without internet. Any way to prod the crew into finishing?

Hi Jacob, there are quite a few factors that can affect the speeds. If you have a 1 Gig capable device connected directly into the router, upload speeds should be around 930-940 Mbps. If you are connected over Wi-Fi, speeds will be a bit slower.

Hi Rob, thank you for your interest in Truestream! The biggest factor will be where you would like the router in your home, we recommend a central location. If your phone placement is near the router placement, we can tie into that and keep your existing line working. Otherwise, a phone line will need to be run from the router to the phone.

While on vacation plan mode, you will have enough bandwidth to run 1-2 security cameras, and we require the power to remain on at the location. Hi Judith, thank you for your interest in Truestream! The Family Plan (200 Mbps) refers more to the speed, not a data cap that would limit you to streaming only one night a week. Any plan we offer will be good for streaming on at least one device, as much as you like. More than speed, it is important to think about how many devices you will have connected at the same time, because each device uses a piece of the 100 Mbps, 200 Mbps, or 1 Gig plan. As a general rule, if you have 1-4 devices connected, you will likely be ok with the basic plan. If you have 5-9 devices, the family plan would be best. If you have more than 10, you might want to think about the ultra plan. We have no contracts, and you can switch plans if you need to, without any additional fees. We cover the rural parts of 26 counties in Michigan so we know it will take a bit of time to reach everyone in need. We estimate the entire build will take 8-10 years. Hi Henriette, thank you for your interest in Truestream! If they are white flags, they are the proposed path the fiber line will take from the mainline to the side of your home. Generally, that will follow a very similar path as your electric line, and a small gray box will be installed near your meter base, when possible. If they are different colored flags, it is likely MISS DIG coming to mark the underground utilities in preparation for your underground installation. We strive to leave your property undisturbed, so the proposed fiber path should avoid any major landscaping you have.

Good day. I completely understand only offering to your existing electric company. However, I do not believe I have an option and have Consumers. Our address is currently 1/8 of a mile outside of one of your corwith areas designated on your soon to coverage map. I just don't understand why we would not be included if we are so close. We cannot use cell internet as we do not get enough signal. We use satellite but it is so faint it is hard for our grandchildren to stream anything for school. In addition, you have a gas line going right down the easement of our 200 acres. We hope you reconsider based upon not having any viable options, your gas line easement and being so dang close to us in the corwith future.

Hi Jennifer, thank you for your interest in Truestream. I understand your frustrations, but there is a couple of reasons offering high-speed fiber internet to our members is our priority. First, as an electric cooperative, our members are the owners, so they are the priority. Second, we have an existing electric grid, making attaching the fiber lines to our own poles easier. Attaching our equipment on others' poles gets more complicated. At some point, we may expand beyond our own electrical service territory. Elmira 2 - 82% to goal. Please seriously look at our area. We have NOTHING at my house or on my street. Any by nothing I mean 1.5mbps from CenturyLink if lucky! The broadband maps are wrong, they show the whole area being able to get cable/other high speed. I can't even work from home it's so bad. Even if it's not full deployment and just the people that can't get anything else would be super appreciative. I'm glad to see some builds scheduled though, that's very encouraging!

As of yesterday we have truestream installed. I didn't catch the two guys names who installed it, but I thanked them and I hope they know I appreciate it. They showed up to check it and asked if we wanted it installed and we may have been a lil eager to say yes, but they were cool and its working great. Hi Chuck, thank you for your interest in Truestream! Most of the customer comments/recommendations we receive are over on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/jointruestream/). Everyone's experience is a little different, based on the number of connected devices you have, but I am happy to share mine. I have 5 people total in my house, all of whom use WiFi devices at some point, between phones and tablets, etc. We also have a few devices that are always connected, like several smart home devices and a gaming system. Our cable internet could not keep up if we were all on the devices at the same time - it was constantly dropping the connection to the kids' tablets. Now with Truestream (I have the Gig plan), we have no connection issues and no issues with reliability. We have also switched to exclusively streaming tv, which given the already existing issues, we couldn't have done previously. If you have any questions, please let me know!

We have decided to expand that, and bring fiber to our members as well. By building and maintaining our own system, we have greater control over issues that may arise. My neighbor across the street just had truestream installed this morning which makes me wonder when we will received our installation? The reason I ask, is that their internet fiber comes off the telephone pole in my yard and it would make sense to install both at the same time. We bill about the middle of the month, and the due date will be the 1st of the following month. Truestream came through our subdivision (Country Club Hills in Bear Creek Township) this summer to lay cable and install those above ground, green junction boxes (what are they called?). I signed up for phone service and realize it will not be installed till next year. My question is, when the fiber-optic line is sent to my house, is it connected to the cable along the road in front of my house or does it go to one of those junction boxes which is elsewhere in my subdivision?

Hi Bill, thank you for your interest in Truestream! The green junction boxes in your subdivision are technically called a terminal pedestal. The main fiber line on the road is extended to a terminal pedestal, and from that pedestal is where we branch off and bring the fiber line directly to your home. Julie, when I asked you on August 19th when you may be getting to Skyline Drive in Petoskey you said they were going to be in our area that week. There are 20plus houses in our subdivision and 2 or three have been hooked up. I have been told that the underground is messed up. The whole neighborhood is talking of coming to the meeting on the 9th to try to get some answers. Several people removed their satellite receivers back in August and it has been 50 days since my last message. Can someone give us some answers on where were are at on getting hooked up? I have a conduit going to my home as I stated before and there are three other conduits going to the two green boxes on the corner of my lot with fiber running thru two of them.

Hi Paul, we do offer a vacation plan - here are the basics. It is $25/mo. for up to 6 months of the year for internet service and $15/mo. for up to 6 months of the year for voice service. Our vacation internet plan provides enough bandwidth to operate a security system while you are away and allows you to go back on a regular internet plan when you return. With the voice vacation plan, you can keep your phone number and dial 911 for emergencies then go back on the standard voice plan when you return. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Hi Jeff, The white flags are the proposed route for the electric or fiber line. I assume you aren't upgrading your electric service and we were there to mark the proposed fiber route :-). From this point, MISS DIG will still have to come out and mark other utilities - as soon as you see those flags, you can mark your own underground facilities (if you have any near the white flags). Actual underground installation should be done approximately within 2-4 weeks of those white flags appearing. Soon, my friend!

If you have overhead electric, you don't need to worry about it. Hi Jessica, it's been a while! We do have a vacation plan for phone services as well, it is $15 a month, and gives access to 911 and allows you to keep your number. You can take advantage of that rate for up to 6 months per the calendar year, and there is no bundle discount when on the vacation rate. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Julie, I understand the the business model GLE is using to build out the fiber network. I would like to comment that, in my opinion, being a co-op, there should be consideration given to where there are either zero or very few options for internet, not necessarily driven by top demand. Folks like us, where we are in the Wayland area have very few options, all of which do not come close to serving the needs in today's world. As some of other customers have commented, 8-10 years is plain and simply, a pipe dream.

Hi Tim, thank you for your input. If there are limited options or no options and people want access, shouldn't the demand for high-speed fiber internet be higher in those areas? We understand the frustration of not having this vital access and the timeline, 8-10 years to cover our entire service area does sound like a long time. At least it is a timeline though, not just an empty promise. Internet service providers do not have regulated territories like electric providers do, so we have no control over who has or doesn't have access to high-speed internet, or where those people may be. Because of this, we think factoring in the demand level is important when making construction and engineering decisions.

We primarily target our communications and marketing to the areas we are actively working in, but we do put the information out there in our Country Lines magazine as well, to raise awareness overall. 8-10 years is our goal for complete construction, but that does not mean because Wayland is in our southern area it will be last. We will take demand into consideration when deciding where to build next.

I have had a number of people in the Middleville/Gun Lake/Rutland township area ask if they had to be a Great Lakes Energy electrical customer in order to have a potential for Truestream (this area is an endpoint for Great Lakes and Consumers for electricity). Is Truestream only sticking with Great Lakes electrical customers, or looking to the entire area?

As Great Lakes Energy, we are an electric cooperative, meaning everyone we service is an owner, and we want to bring our high-speed fiber internet to them first! That goes every time there is a snow storm or heavy rain . You would get way more people in those area but then again that were the money is at.

I live in a rural area of your service. Based on the percentage of customers interested in your internet, I will never get it. I have been a long time GLE customer. I know I chose to live where I live, but why do you concentrate your efforts on areas that have multiple choices for high speed internet? Realistically I doubt that we will see this service come to fruition for at least 5 years or more, especially being the southern most service area for GLE. We have very few options for internet and all fall short in either bandwidth, data caps or pricing. As exciting as this first was, reality is that it seems to be merely another pipe dream. Hi Roger, I will try to answer both your questions with just one reply. We wish we could provide high-speed fiber internet service to ALL 26 counties we serve in rural Michigan at once, but that just isn't possible because we want to be smart with how we go about this. We chose our Petoskey service area, which is all of Emmet County, and parts of Charlevoix and Cheboygan counties as our pilot area for multiple reasons, and one of those is because of the variety of internet options. We cannot control who chooses to provide internet services to which area. Things like terrain and our member base were also factors. Please don't confuse us saying Petoskey service area with the city of Petoskey, we are only bringing our services to our rural Great Lakes Energy members. We feel confident if we can make a go of it factoring in competition (and don't get us wrong, A LOT of our people in the area have no options), seasonal, full-time and business accounts, and the varied economic backgrounds in the area, we will be able to expand our construction into our other areas. We have divided out Petoskey service area into smaller sections, with roughly the same number of meters in each area - and that is what we use to factor the demand for our service. Areas with no options then theoretically should have the highest demand right? When we move into a new area for construction, we will divide that area up into smaller, similar sized sections as well. When we say Petoskey service area, we to our Great Lakes Energy members in that area only, and we only serve rural folks throughout Michigan, no cities for us! We serve 26 counties in Michigan, from the tip of the mitt to south of Grand Rapids. Since that is such a large service area, we are planning to bring our high-speed fiber internet to all members within 10 years. When we move construction into an area, say Newaygo, our plan is to bring service to everyone in that service area that wants it before we move on. If you have any questions, let me know!

Thanks for the reply, Julie. Sorry, it seems I didn't phrase my question right. Our property is on the very southern edge of GLE's service area near Cedar Springs (not too far from Newaygo). It is sparsely populated in a homeowners' association (10 acre parcels) with residents who have been getting by either with slow internet, expensive internet, or without internet altogether. I could be a champion for the area, but it is certainly not a high-demand, higher-density area like Petoskey. My question is in regard to what year GLE expects to be able to offer Truestream to 100% of their customers. If our area had the least demand, when would fiber finally arrive? Thanks!

We live in a rural area and have few good IPS options and no great options. Really looking forward to having a fast reliable wired internet connection. We depend on internet to monitor security and heating systems when we are not home as well as some limited streaming entertainment, email, etc when we are home. I work for Trinity Health at the Local Hospitals and manage all of their servers and networking needs. I work from home mostly, 4 out of 5 days a week which is great. Just some kudos to the GLE/Truestream team. I've had months of back and forth communication with multiple people in the organization, and I was hesitantly optimistic about the fiber rollout. Then a couple weeks ago, a friend got their install. It went well. Then about a week after that, a friend down the road from my place got their install. It also went well. On New Year's Eve, I was the lucky first install of the day. Not only did the install go well, but some concerns I had were addressed with reasoned, truthful responses. (specifically, why people were advised not to change their WiFi SSIDs -- due to frequent initial updates potentially resetting modems to default) My non-standard installation was met with excitement, not frustration. And when things didn't go quite right with hardware (totally due to my unique requests), I wasn't fluffed off. Rather, one of the network techs is looking into it, and he has a history of getting back with me personally. Best of all, during the install, I got a visit from the same person I communicated with online. And even got a gift for asking so many difficult questions over the past few months. LOL! The Truestream team was professional, kind, and acted like you'd expect a CO-OP to act. Like people. I'm proud to be a part of the initial rollout, and I can assure everyone who is waiting for the build-out -- it will be worth the wait. Not just for the Internet service, but for the customer service as well. :)

It appears we're tracking fairly well but I know many will be asking if we'll have it going in by next June as the place generally fills up around that time of year. Hi John, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We have tried to create areas to include a similar number of address, which is why some look larger than others. If we go by demand, and the Pellston area has no options, shouldn't everyone in that area, no matter how rural or remote, be flocking to sign up? Demand is also just ONE of the factors we are using to determine where to build when branching off our main fiber lines. Our engineering and construction departments have other considerations factored in to help determine where to build as well.

Hi Larry, The exact number of crews at any given time varies. Generally speaking, we have crews that work on overhead construction, underground construction, splicing (joining) the lines, and then we have our in-home installers as well. We are actively working during the winter, but due to weather-related issues and state and county regulations, we have fewer crews out working now than you will see come spring. Julie, You stated that because some of the homes in my subdivision are over 1500 feet from your main line that puts all of us in Petoskey East instead of Petoskey A2. However since the subdivision was wired for fiber optics when the subdivision was built I believer your main hookup is less than 200 feet and then its just hooking up to homes. My thoughts a while ago of 10,000 by Christmas was a hopeful guess estimate. However, it looks a lot more realistic each day. I congratulate all that have made a hookup and those seriously close! It just might be a reality yet. I watch wondering what happened to the announcement of the next selected place that was to come out in November? If I missed the news darn it. So much is changing rapidly now. Have to give Julie a call and tell her how much she has helped all of us that are trying to get Truestream in our areas. But, I know a lot of my neighbors that are signed up don't show on Petoskey East. We live in Scenic Farms subdivision and I was told that fiber optics was run thru the subdivision when it was built. Hi Evan, Thank you for your interest in Truestream! We don't have any set timelines, but I can tell you what our plans are, so far. Summer of 2019 is when we will start branching off of our main lines, out into other areas. We will likely start construction in two areas at once, and those will be the two areas with the highest demand. So far that is Petoskey East and Hayes. Petoskey West (your area) is third in demand. If that demand remains as it is now, we estimate starting on construction and installations in Petoskey West sometime in the fall of 2019. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi Peter, thank you for your interest in Truestream! We have each individual area designed with the goal of having about 600 subscribers. Each of those areas have varying internet access, a lot of people are telling us they have no internet options (the horror)! We want to go where we are wanted, so demand is helping us determine where to build, once we branch out from our main lines that connect our electric substations. If someone is unhappy with their internet access (or lack of access!) they will jump at the chance to register their interest, and spread the word to their friends and neighbors, therefore creating a higher demand for that area. Hi Tom and Gary, to answer both of your questions, I cannot tell you an exact date services will be installed up your way. We are starting in-home installations VERY soon for some lucky folks along our main fiber lines. Those installations will continue through the winter and into the spring. Summer is when we are planning on branching out into the other areas, and we will do that by demand. So far, it looks like the Petoskey East and Hayes areas want us the most. Overall, the Petoskey area build is expected to take 2-3 years. Spread the word to all your friends and neighbors and encourage them to register their interest, lets see if you can help build up the demand for your area to get service faster!

We are on schedule to start connecting some very lucky subscribers located on off of our main fiber lines in November! As far as the Hayes area, no, it does not need to be at 100% before we will start construction, we are using that more as a gauge of demand - and Hayes currently sits in second place for demand. Ideally, we will begin branching off of our main lines into the two highest demand areas in the summer of 2019. Hi Shawn, those big coils looped on some of the poles are called slack storage, and with a few exceptions, so far they are only along our main fiber line. If someone is within about 1500 ft. of that and they are not registered as an A1 or A2, have them email us and we can verify their location!

Hi Shawn, why yes, we do have a map of the exact location of the main line path that connects all of our substations. Unfortunately for you (and me!), our engineering department keeps that under lock and key. The best I can say is take a drive and look around.

Hi Robert, I apologize your questions were not being addressed, let me do my best to help out. We plan on offering a seasonal plan, but what that will exactly look like is still in the works. We will have more details on that this winter. As far as installing the fiber lines overhead or underground, our plan is to follow the same path as the electric lines. If your electric is underground, your fiber line will be as well. If you have any additional questions, please let me know!

I still have questions which no one seems interested in addressing so far. I’ll try again. Can the service be suspended for a period of time such as 4-5 months when no one is using it? And can the fiber optic line running from the power line pole be buried? My power and old phone lines are both buried and I would not want an overhead line.

Hi John, we don't have anyone connected quite yet, we are planning our first installs for October (ahh...right around the corner!). Our plan is for the crew to come in and connect the house off of the main line. Once that is complete, we call to set up the in-home installation. Just like that - the high-speed fiber internet you deserve is at your fingertips!

I'm in Petoskey East and excited to see that this area is 67% towards completion. Living on Sheaffers Crossing (Antler Hill assoc) there are only 4 or 5 full time homes and no one wants to provide service. No hot spots with Verizon or AT&T, Viasat/Excede is horrible service and outrageous in cost. Hughsnet is the same. Cant get a landline, even though my home had one once upon a time. So, as soon as you want to have access to the easement that runs thru my property....have at it.

There has been construction going on along the sides of N Conway rd in Oden / Conway, digging down into the shoulders, and it appears that they are laying corrugated conduit. I don't think my area is A1 or A2 but is it possible that they are prepping to lay fiber through that area?

funny, how one person sees a white truestream truck in the immediate area where they live, and they are going ballistic! Goes to show people hear but do not comprehend it is real even yet. Our address is Pellston but we are 12 miles from downtown Pellston and five minutes from Cross Village in a horrible hole that no one ever wants to service. It took 45 days to get a phone when we moved out here because all phone companies said they did not service this area. I love being rural but PLEEEEAAAASE!!!! Former HughesNet customer suffering with present VIASAT SATELLITE internet.

Hi Tim, thanks for your question! As Great Lakes Energy, we serve about 15,000 members in the Petoskey service district. Our studies have shown we should be able to sign up about 40% of those members for Truestream (about 6,000 people). Excluding the A1 and A2 areas that are in construction, we have 10 areas, with a goal of 600 sign ups per area - that is where the % comes from, and no, they don't have to reach 100% before we start building. That is just a guide to show what area has the highest demand. If you have any more questions, let me know!

That being said, our plan is about a year from now, we assess how it is going in the Petoskey area and start looking into where we may want to build next. Construction in that next area could then begin in 2020. Julie, Out of curiosity, how was the "goal" calculated under the business plan deployment of the Truestream fiber service? Meaning, if area X has 1000 customers and the bar graph indicates 10% to goal, does that mean 100 of the 1000 customers have signed up for it? And, does each area have to hit the 100% mark before construction will begin in that area? Just asking because the reality will be a very rare circumstance that any one area will attain 100%. When we signed up with truestream a few weeks ago, we were placed in the Cross Village area based on our address. However, we are located directly on M-119, just north of Good Hart, and in recent days workers with equipment bearing the truestream logo have been working in the electric right-of-way that runs through our property. Is it a certainty that we aren't actually in your core group? (I'm hesitant to post my actual address on a public message board, but I imagine you can get it through from your database, if necessary.) Thank you.

We just had a Lake Louise (Thumb Lake - Hudson Township in Charlevoix) community wide meeting last night and there were 80-90 people in attendance one of the biggest ever. I distributed printed materials from the Champions meeting and gave a presentation, sharing the information we had been given. The interest was overwhelming. Everyone in the lake community is MORE THAN EXCITED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF FIBER INTERNET (and getting rid of DSL or Satellite). Based on what I heard, it can't come soon enough. My wife and I wore the T-shirts to the meeting and everyone was calling them the billboards. thanks for providing the marketing materials - I was able to encourage everyone to sign up and register on the TrueStream site and to pass on the information to neighbors who were not present at the meeting.

Then I began to invite my friends- like the old story, tell someone a secret and next thing you know...the world knows the secret. Well jointruestream.com is no secret!, I can see the spools of Fiber optical,the white trucks in neighborhoods!. To be able to reach out with new smart phones and reach libraries of books etc. from home and so many other ways of using this wonderful tool here at home. I remember when I learned "upload and download" from a family member...Who know that that little line could blaze through in a zip! Technology will take us to space far beyond our dreams can imagine...In school we learned about the blazing trails to the "new Alaska: The Last Frontier . I remember laying on the floor as a child reading the weekly reports of those brave souls that loaded up and headed for Alaska! I just wanted to go right now. One day our kids will look at our youth and ask, "How did you guys survive? Kerosene lamps? for real? Typewriters with no plug ins? No dishwasher? Just think of all you do today and ask your self this question. I told I am sure more than 150 people just me, myself and I. Have you shared your knowledge? Hi Julie, thanks for your follow-up. I just looked and found the dropdown you mentioned, I had missed that before. I addition to sorting it by area, it would be good if the supporters list could be also sorted alphabetically so it would make it easier to scroll down and look at names and skip the "anonymous" supporters. I understand that you can search by individual name, but that is clunky and time consuming. A simple alpha listing by area would make it easier for champions. Thanks for considering. Seems the internet express is coming to town. Some will be fooled by anything that moves. I personally will keep on working and asking people to join. I want to see GLEjointruestream become the giant here...If it can carry our electrical works and keep on going, good enough for me to want. I attended the meeting last nigh. Thank for a great meeting! One thing struck me a little odd. A question was asked if Great Lakes would focus on those, like me, that do not have any form of wired (Carter Perish)internet first. It was said that Great Lakes management did not think that these areas would be more interested then those who already had a form of wired internet. But yet when the group was asked "how many have data caps" well over half raised there hands. This seems to indicate to me a large interest of those who do not have wired internet. I hope that Great Lakes will look at this a little closer.

Julie, I attended the Champions Mtg at Nubs Nob last night. That was very helpful. What also would be helpful is if we could sort the 4,378 supporters by area. I just tried a very time consuming process of scrolling down a few at a time (on my very slow current internet) to see if I recognized some of the names in the Boyne Area (where I am) and finally quit after looking a lots of names from other areas that didn't mean anything to me as a Boyne Area Champion. Unfortunately, there are also a lot of anonymous supporters so it would be great if I could click on the "supporters link" and filter out by area and alphabetically by name, excluding the anonymous supporters.

Our in-home installers will make sure all your existing devices are connected before they leave. We are not offering television, so how you choose to bring cable/local channels into your home is up to you. Since everyone has their own preferences, we aren't planning on recommending any one product or service for television. As far as equipment to buy to bring the high speed fiber-internet into your home, we will provide a router with built in WiFi. If you are asking about television equipment, again, that would be up to you to decide what works best for you. For home phone service, we offer a $5 a month discount when bundled with an internet plan, but we have no plans on further reducing that at this time. If you have any additional questions at this time, please let me know!

Hi Robert-our plan is to follow the path of the electric lines-if they go overhead, so does the fiber. If they go underground, so does the fiber, that includes the service right up to your house. As far as suspending service, we are working on a plan for our seasonal members, so keep an eye our for that later this year!

The locations they pass directly in front of are labeled Petoskey A1 or Petoskey A2. We want to start gauging interest in all our service areas though, because demand will help us determine where to start building next. Hi Julie, I signed up to be a champion in the middle of the south side of the Boyne area. I haven't received anything yet, but I've already started going door to door sharing this web site to get people to register. What I'm wondering is why the Boyne area is so huge. Do we need a specific amount of people in the entire Boyne area, or just a specific number of people in any neighborhood in that area to guarantee service? What are those numbers? It seems like it should be broken into smaller sections. Another big thing to note is that Boyne Mountain is near me (about 10 miles away), and that's a WHOLE lot of subscribers, I imagine. I'm not sure if you take that into your calculations or not.

Once they learn of this alternative to Spectrum/Charter, I suspect that they will become as enthusiastic as I am about the Truestream alternative. How can Truestream help me get out the word?

pkg came yesterday now begins my count down. Yesterday I contacted with share to probably 75 neighbors and friends....I have my plan mapped out basically, and yes it is ambitious. No, I will not do it alone. You see 15 townships, 5 villages and 9 Districts are involved in this move...yes, we are a zoned Twp. I got my Supervisor interested, he said game on, today I see his name...we have this on the next agenda to bring on the Board if it is their will. Next my "Districts", are all elected officials of my county...they can be interested in fact one hit a return and thanked me for telling her about this! is she listed? no- perhaps she is one of the anonymous. One other is registered as a CHAMPION,that means A BIG thank you David. now the meeting in a few days...that will be big help...A past Commissioner is excited and she joined yesterday( excited news and she will be calling neighbors and family to tell them it is coming for real!, next the letter, what it will say is still cooking in my brain..But it will go to 29 Individuals in my plan. One big unifying meeting in the near future to put our county on the map! Then with letters and the help here, we will begin a mass move in this county. I think we might have a count that will interest others...I have to see... Hardly slept last night, but this is possible and i have to thank my champion Julie Bailey. I dare to be different, will it work, only you will tell me yes, when you become a CHAMPION too.

Hi James, we are working hard to bring the much needed high-speed fiber internet to as many people as soon as possible, but it does take time. Our plan is for the fiber lines to follow the same path as the electric lines, so overhead where it overhead, underground where it is underground with no installation costs.

I live on Maple Grove road in Hayes township and HughesNet can’t service me because of all the trees. I desperately need internet to connect to the world (and look for work as a recent transplant to MI). I can’t wait for fiber to get here!!!

Please work on the Levering Area ASAP. All of us out here have satellite or Century Link-which is like dial up speed. Cannot wait until this reaches our area, I know a lot of residents will be switching over. Just hoping we do not have to wait years until this happens. The other service areas have more options, like charter for their internet, we do not have that option.

Hurry up, I changed over from seasonal to a full-time resident and I'm holding off on signing a contract for internet service but I can't wait until next year. Also my electric service is buried cable from a pole 800 feet away to my home, Truestream in going to do the same for free to bring me internet?

Hi Bill! We won't force you to part with anything (except maybe your slow internet). If your router and equipment can handle up to 1 Gig, by all means, keep it! Please consider a lower end package to compete with satellite, wimax, and other low speed providers (also offer a lower rate). A lot of cabin/cottage/part-time residents won't pay $60/mo, but would likely purchase a slower/cheaper plan. Jessica, we plan on providing the WiFi router with all installations, without a monthly rental fee. There may be an additional fee if you think you will need a WiFi booster though.

Hi Bill, thanks for your questions! Fiber optic lines are far superior to anything else out there, when we say 100 Mbps (or 200 Mbps or 1,000 Mbps!) we actually mean it! There is always the chance for a bit of a difference, but if it is ever more than 5-8 Mbps we would be shocked! As far as routers, we are taking the worry out of that as well! We will provide a WiFi enabled router we know can handle those speeds! Thank you for your interest and if you have any questions please let me know!

My current ISP advertises internet speed of 100 Mbps but I actually get about 65 Mbps which does not surprise me because the signal is running over copper wires. Will your fiber optic speeds degrade like that too? After all, the fiber gets too my house but the signal is still going to be going over the network wires in my house, correct? What about compatible routers that can take advantage of the potentially higher speeds?

I just want to say thank god. We have been begging Charter for AGES to get out here and service our neighborhood. But their lines stop at Bills Farm Market out East Mitchell. I can see from my house where they stop. I saw the trucks out on the road this morning installing the fiber, stopped and talked to one of the guys installing it. Almost wanted to give him a hug haha. Very glad its coming.

Hi Tim, by entering an address you are strictly showing your interest in bringing high-speed internet to your location, no obligation. We recommend not signing any long term contracts that would prevent you from getting Truestream when it does come to your area, but I would say your assessment for 'best case' about two years is accurate.

Julie, thank you for information. I am signed up as a champion and look forward to doing as much as I can to help with the process for our area. One bit of pushback that I am getting when talking to my neighbors is that they are currently in contracts with their ISPs. To my understanding about the process, if everything goes well, we are still realistically looking out at about 2 years for our area, correct? Reason I ask, is that I have been explaining that even if they are in a contract, by signing up now shows support for Truestream but at the same time does not mean they have to terminate their current contracts.

Hello! I too am from the Wayland area where I have limited choices. I currently use FreedomNet. I have been fairly happy with them, but there are a lot of slow times and they do not have the equipment to get me a faster connection where I live. I have subscribed to Sling and we occasionally get the "streaming" message even when no one else is on the wi-fi. I like the 3 packages with options for speeds and I like that upload/download is symmetrical! Thank you!

We are so excited about the potential of fiber coming in to our area. Currently, we are very limited with what is available and the high cost of those services. One question I do have.....we are in the Wayland area which, by the map, is the furthest area south. What if we have enough support to go forward with the project but other connecting areas north of us do not, does that mean we won't be able to connect?

I was so excited to see this that I actually ended up registering twice by accident. We are in great need of high speed internet at Lake Louise (Thumb Lake) in Boyne Falls. I previously high Century link DSL and was getting .28Mbps (yes, that is a decimal point in front of the 28). I switched to Hughes Net and we are currently paying more than your highest rate for 1000 Mbps and getting on average somewhere between 7Mbps and 15Mbps (and on rare occasions up to 25 Mbps) but are capped at 50 GB of data per month after which we are slowed down to crawl speed. While some may think that Lake Louise is only a summer community, there are a greater number of retirees like myself that live here full-time as well as owners that use their lake homes on a year round basis for 4 season activities. Most of them are used to high speed internet downstate and have more and more technology dependent on the the internet and wi-fi to monitor and control smart thermostats, cameras, security systems, etc. There are also more people working remotely when at the lake who would benefit from high speed internet. There are about 140 residences at the lake, three summer camps and a year round retreat center that would benefit from having high speed internet, since kids today (and adults) can't live without their smart phones. I signed up to be a champion and look forward to making this dream a reality. Keep up the good work, we are counting on you.

Looking forward to actual wifi and not satillite. Frustrating when I see cable lines from Berger Rd/Mitchelle Rd heading east and down S. Ellsworth Rd, knowing they are not Truestream but another provider who has refused to come "up the hill" into Antler Hill Assoc because there are only 3 full time homes. Many of my coworkers who live rural Petoskey and are Great Lakes customers are all excited and ready to make the change. Because my unlimited data package is so bad, we are getting ready to cancel service. Why pay the amount we are paying and get nothing. Between that and horrible cellular service with Verizon....I am personally saying WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME and THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU from all of the unsatisfide Satillite internet customers.

Who could imagine the connection at my farm in Brutus would be better and cheaper! Will there be updates about the specifics of the technology? (I'm curious about potential static IP addresses, which ports will be accessible from the outside, etc) I'd like to be able to work from an office at my farm instead of my current office, but need some specifics in order to make that work...

When I signed up, I was not sure between two product levels. I finally chose the 200mbps because it is way more than I currently have. Are pamphlets or photos available showing details of a completed residential installation? Google searches have information about the equipment needed to bring fiber optic service into homes, but it would be nice to know what equipment Truestream plans to provide when meeting a service request. Information to help prepare for the service may help homeowners make it easier for the installers and keep installation cost to a minimum. If some equipment will need to be provided by the homeowner, making wise decisions in the interim will save time and money.

Hi Ralph, the Petoskey A1 and A2 areas are not shown on the map, but they are the parts of each area listed that will be constructed first and can get service as soon as this year. Then we will branch from there. When you register your address, if you are in A1 or A2, you will receive a message telling you. Remember, that construction may be driven by demand so spread the word!
